More than that, but does it matter?

Let's switch it up. Imagine there was a magical fuel that could run your car and your house and everything in it. This fuel is delivered to your house all the time, and you keep some extra stored in your car and home. Then something happens and the fuel stops flowing, but you have extra on hand so you're good for a while. Other people may not be so lucky, but you can sell them some of yours and transfer it instantly and with no effort on your part, and you make a nice profit on it. On top of that, you can convert any other fuel into this magical fuel, and you can even own the equipment to create the fuel out of nothing whenever the sun is shining.

Does that sound like the absolute dumbest fuel for us to use for everything?

Depends on the car and your utility rates. The point is, by helping stabilize the grid, you just got 9/10ths of a tank for free. It's not complicated.

Personally, I would put 100% of the power up and keep my ICE fueled up to use. But I prefer money to virtue signaling.

I guess this is the thread where all the Southerners take a big sigh of relief as they watch the thermometer tick above freezing. Now, they can laugh at the others without Karma being such an immediate threat.

All my extended maternal family is north of there in Jefferson County and St Lawrence County and they have been unable to leave their homes. The snow drifts are 8 feet high and they’ve had 40-50 mph winds. They are stuck but toasty and safe.

I'm glad to hear your family is safe. The Watertown/Ft. Drum was hit by a good storm just before Thanksgiving as well.

I'm just south of that lake effect band. Really happy it stayed north and didn't drop down.

I singled it out as being THE REASON why it's not "selfless" like you thought. Nobody is taking your resources or making you give them away for free or even at cost. You will have the option to sell your resources at a hefty markup, and you've twisted that into some LOL like people will be so selfless stupidity.

Surprising a city like Buffalo wasn’t better equipped to deal with blizzard conditions, but it was a freak storm.

That wasn't just a blizzard.

That was a Snowcane, essentially. Hours and hours of 50+mph winds with gusts over 70mph. During that you can't do anything to alleviate the impacts of the snow. Plows cant run, electrical crews cant work, EMS cant efficiently respond to calls, hell fire departments had crews abandoning trucks and seeking shelter anywhere they could find it. It is basically the same as when the authorities send out the message once hurricane winds start that says, "All emergency response will be suspended until it is safe.....", they simply couldn't do anything. After the actual blizzard, they got another heavy dose of lake effect snow just for good measure.

Now, throw in the fact that there was a travel ban. No one was supposed to be on the roads at all. People ignored it, though. Many of those people wound up stranded. Hundreds of rescues had to be carried out. What that left behind was a whole bunch of stranded vehicles blocking roads and hampering emergency response and response to clear roads.

This wasn't just some snow falling. This wasn't even what they had a while back with the lake effect snow that dumped six feet on them.

the whole idea of people driving ev's to begin with is to appear selfless. its bullshite, now you're bringing monetary factors into this. When you already paid a 20k markup for a vehicle with a lifespan less than 10 years.

It does, actually. These mass power outages would be more rare once we have more EVs which can backfeed to the grid.
several brown outs have been averted in my area that im aware of the last couple years through power agreements that allowed area DC batteries to back feed the grid

Kork, in a serious manner, can you explain to me how in a EV utopia, this scenario could be avoided or at least mitigated? Perhaps not in Buffalo because it's a pretty extreme weather example.

You mean like when the rest of
