Damn, if only Otuk and Lars had discovered fire back in the day.

Putting every American car on the electrical grid sounds like a good idea.
It does, actually. These mass power outages would be more rare once we have more EVs which can backfeed to the grid.

You get paid for the energy transfers, and if you're about to freeze to death you'd obviously be consuming rather than putting it on the grid.

I don't know why folks think economics and logic goes out the window when it comes to EVs and renewables. Or maybe the anti-EV folks are just awful with economics and logic?

Good thing MIT is figuring out how to release sun reflecting particles in the atmosphere.

EV owners types think they figured out a short cut to not work the rest of their life.

Individuals mad poor choices, that's what this comes down to.

Weather like that is easily survivable, except for the heart attacks.

I doubt many froze to death but those that did had ample warning.

Considering most folks have either oil or natural gas in their home... Not sure how more electric cars would change that...?

So, you wouldn't sell back 10% of the fuel in your gas tank for 10x what you paid for it?

One of our local residents is espousing the theory that the reduction in pollutants during the COVID crisis has caused the climate to revert back to normal (hence, why it is so cold).

"She said I can't go back to America soon
So goddamn cold it's gonna snow until June
Yeah, they're freezin' up in Buffalo, stuck in their cars
And I'm lyin' here 'neath the sun and the stars"

doubt Buffalo sees 6 feet of heavy, wet snow very often. Sounds Ike at least some of the deaths are unfortunate situations, like the guy dying of carbon monoxide poisoning because a snow drift was blocking his furnace exhaust.

They see snow storms enough that everyone there should have a basic level of preparation for this kind of thing.

I live in South Louisiana and keep an indoor safe propane heater with enough propane to last many days if needed.
