Going insane trying to get through the passport website

All I'm needing to do is change my wife's passport from her maiden name to her current last name

It's still valid through 2017 but we are leaving mid June for Mexico.

Online it's asking if I need a book, card, or both. Any help is appreciated

Dude just book the trip in her maiden name... No need to pay extra money to change her passport.. Been doing it for my wife for the past 2 years, her passport will expire in 2017 as well then we will change it

Just book the plane ticket with her passport name and do the renewal/name change together in 2017.

F me didn't think of that

What if her license is in her current name? Won't that affect it?

Also, if I just get the card am I considered a renewal or first time since we only have the booklet?

Dude. Just keep her current passport and book the ticket. She doesn't need her license.

She can just use the passport as her identification

Technically against the law to do this

but I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted for it

How? In Louisiana a legal name change requires a judge's signature. So "technically" my wife's name is actually correct on the passport still.

Now my wife is freaking out thinking they won't take it. Lol

I'm like it will save us $150!

How will they know if the names are different? They wouldn't. Women

Passport is federal, state law means nothing to it. Just going by what the Dept of State staff told us when we changed hers

ETA: Whatever her SS card says is what her name is to the feds

The state department website is really not complicated for non-tards.

We decided to avoid all this hassle and not legally change her name. Just seemed like a pain in the arse.

What constitutes a federal name change? SS Card?

My wife had just renewed her passport right before our honeymoon so it had her maiden name on it. She's used it 3 times in 5 years now without issue.

As long as the name on the ticket matches the passport she's fine.

1. Book the flight in her maiden name. I have traveled to and from the USA 4 times in the last year and I have never had to give my license. When I go through customs or have to show ID at the airport I just show my passport.
2. Get the booklet
