I love Ft. Lauderdale but it's definitely holding on to Crockett and Tubbs.

Bay county isn't a fricking joke. The county prison there sucks and it's actually full of rednecks 11 months out of the year that actually hates all these "big city learnt college folks" showing up and pumping money into their backwoods town hand over fist a few weeks out of the year.

I love it when tourists try to hang their dollars over locals' heads. The locals there have a right to look after where they LIVE. I don't blame them for not wanting their home trashed for a month out of every year.

Didn't realize Afro-Americans were beach goers.

I find it super dumb that other places actually consider that a crime. Who cares?

I'm sure if the civic leaders that know PC best thought that was true they'da ended Spring Break decades ago...

You're missing the point. Yeah they want kids to come down on spring and summer breaks. But what they don't want is for the crowds of drunken kids to get to the point nobody else other than drunken kids wants to come to their town. And that's what's happened in PC. I remember what PC was like back as far as the mid 80s. It's always had a party reputation but it's gone too far and now it's a shite hole.

Well here's the thing. Yeah PC gets the huge HS & college crowd for a few weeks in the spring and a few weeks in June. And while there they fill up condos and hotel rooms. And if you own a liquor store, you're making a killing. They'll go out to eat some so they'll pump some into the local restaurants.

But then after those few weeks in the spring and June, they're gone. The rest of the spring and summer places like PC depend on adults and families to come to town with their dollars to spend on hotel/condo rent, going out to eat, and doing normal tourist stuff. That's where the lion's share of the yearly vacation season's profits are made or lost. But really since the mid-90s more and more of those adults and families choose to go elsewhere due to the reputation that PC has grown.

Back in the 80s Panama City was a giant of a vacation destination compared to virtually all the other tourist destinations on the Gulf Coast. It's where everyone went for the most part. That's not been the case for a long time now thanks to the reputation that PC has gotten thanks to the increasingly out of control spring break crowds.

I had heard that they were putting a lot of effort into demolishing all the old motels/shitholes on the strip and replacing with nicer, more modern places. I guess it isn't helping. I haven't been to PC in decades. I have all the air-brushed t-shirts and hermit crabs that I need.

Daytona killed spring break there some years back and it's been a ghost town since.

Ft lauderdale did the same thing mid 80's.

It was wide open till they got fed up with it.

Banded alcohol on the beach and it was dead for Spring break after that.

Most of the locals didn't need that spring break money anyway.

Seems like they would wind up spending more on repairs to their properties than they would make renting them to these miscreants.
