Is it worth it to shell out more money for the higher end interior paint? Or, do the Lowes and Home Depot paint brands do a good enough job?

I've been painting up and down this house with Valspar. I can't really complain. The white is white, blue is blue, etc etc

I guess there's more to it than that I suppose.

Depends on color and application mostly. There are also different levels of the Lowes and Home Depot stuff.

From personal experience I think the high ends brands are better, but I don't always go with them.

For what it's worth....

My brother in law works for Sherwin Williams. he gave us a discount on paint and we bought about 20 gallons to paint the outside of our house.

Our painter said it was the best quality paint he'd ever used.

I do contracting and I use a combo of experience and I like consumer reports. Their test are insane.
I really like Ben Moore paint, but they really like it. It is really expensive. SW makes some good paints but they have some lines that suck. It's a crap shoot until u actually use the different lines. Overall I like Behr from Home Depot. Behr is a small company that uses HD for logistics. So I deal with a Behr rep and the paint comes from a HD hub in TX. I have nothing bad to say about it.

I used Valspar signature from Lowe's last weekend and it was great. Got to return a lot of it because it covered way more than they said it would.

Good paint is always worth it, but good surface prep is and always will be the biggest durability factor.

Have heard good things about the sherwin williams, esp the Duration

I used Gliddens best on my parents house in 2005 and so far so good. Also used the exterior paint in the interior (bath and kitchen=moisture)and that worked well.

Duration by SW is good. I prefer Emerald or Cashmere though. The only medium to low quality paint at SW is the HGTV line. It is no better than your WalMart premium brand.

When painting, don't go cheap on paint, rollers or brushes. A good quality paint job of a room/rooms that you likely won't paint again for at least 5-10 years is really worth the extra $30-$50 per room in the grand scheme of things..

Might end up going to SW. They have a 30% coupon right now, and I expect that they will have better customer service.

No i don't think so. I originally painted my home with sherwin williams and have now been using Behr premium and can't tell the difference. I actually bring my sherwin williams color wheel and have home depot match the color.

I work in sales for Sherwin Williams and before that I worked 10 years at Benjamin Moore. The BM Aura line is nice, but I find the Duration and especially the Emerald from SW to be much better. Obviously, that may be a little biased. The coverage and durabiliy are superior. Pay no attention to those best rated consumer reports. They compare the best of Valspar and Behr to the bottom of the barrel stuff from SW & BM. the 30% off at SW runs through the end of the month and then runs again from Feb 8 - 28.

I only use Valspar. It's DEFINITELY worth the higher cost. It goes on very, very we'll and covers like nothing else I've ever used.

The brand I last bought is the best, everything else sucks and if you use a different brand than me, you are of questionable intellect, poor, trashy, and possibly homosexual.
