Focus on cleaning up your diet and normalizing your sleep as much as possible. These factors are likely more important than training. I recommend a high protein, high fat, low processed carbohydrate diet and or intermittent fasting (16 hour fast, 8 hour feed). Google Leangains for more specifics.

This diet grooves well with the below:

Within this book there is a chapter called Prehab and Occams protocol. They are minimalist approaches based on principles from Body by Science.

I would consider doing this in place of cardio. Only need to do this twice per week if using the above protocol. Pavel recommends doing it everyday, but twice per week should be the minimal effective dose

I have been dealing with thyroid issues for about 6 years now. Before having radioactive treatment to kill it, I lost about 45 pounds. I've been trying over the years to get back at where I was but it's just been difficult. Didn't know if maybe it could help.

Check out Krista's blog It's mostly from a woman's point of view and geared toward women, but she's great at cutting through bullshite, and her site is well worth checking out for anybody getting in to gym stuff and resistance training.

I'm currently doing Wendler 5-3-1. You can find it in the internet.

Yeah that's not what he, or 90% of the lifters here need if i had to guess.

Agreed. This, or any program where you are doing 5 or less reps per set is geared towards powerlifting/strength training.

I agree with the poster that recommended your standard 10 reps per set, 3 sets per exercise program.

never understood why crossfit costs that much

Pretty simple actually. It's a niche gym with higly devoted members. Not to mention the results are pretty good.

Look at any niche type gym, UFC, Pilates, yoga, etc, and you'll see they all are more costly than regular gyms.

..and there is someone directing the class, like a trainer, every crossfit class.

If you paid $40/month for a gym, and then hired someone to work with you ($45/hr) every day when you work out 4x per week, then your costs would be $765/month.

..at that cost, Crossfit is a bargain.
