How often do you take rest days

Second question is if you do a long run, do you rest the next day or just do a lighter run?

I did 12 miles Sunday and 7 yesterday and wondering what to do today

TIA

Also curious on diet. Do you eat a shitload? I eat between 2,500-2,800 calories a day but I'm always tired. Thinking of bumping them up but don't want to gain weight

Btw I'm 5'10 155lbs

I'm out right now with injury BUT I had a tempo day (typically Tuesday), a speedwork day (Thursday) and a long run day (Typically Sunday). Cross trained on Wed/Fri and took rest days Monday/Saturday. Followed Run Less, Run Faster book.

eta, diet wise, I just eat balanced meals and don't really count calories, etc. Weight pretty much stays the same. Rest days might help the tiredness. I also was taking a calcium/magnesium supplement to help with leg cramps.

When I'm running (I'm a cyclist) I need consistency. So if I need a recovery day, it's an easy or short run.

It all depends on my schedule. Friday I ran 13 with 4 bridges and 4 tunnels. Saturday I ran 14. Took Sunday and Monday off. 9 this morning.

Nutrition wise the weekends are typically my free meals. During the week, juice some fruit and veggies for breakfast, salad and meat for lunch, usually some carbs at dinner.

Typically Monday-Crossfit, Tuesday-Track, Wed-5 miles, Thurs 6-8, Rest Fri, Sat-long run, Sun-rest

I trained twice for a marathon while following a couple of different programs.

They were basically the same when it came to the 'meat' days (long runs, tempo runs, speed work, etc) but one had 'recovery runs' (~3-4 miles light, easy runs) on the in between days while the other had off days. I found my performance was better on the 'meat' days doing the recovery runs as opposed to doing nothing. The only day I would take off was the day before the weekly long run (so basically one day a week).

I agree. Easy slow recovery runs do have their benefits. Its just hard for ppl to slow down their pace. Sometimes it messes with your gait and can throw you off a little bit.

I'm tired as hell today and my legs feel like jello

Might just do some insanity instead of a long run

I lost 60 lbs 3 years ago so I freak out that I'm going to
gain weight if I miss a workout
