Not in o&g but my brother in law worked about 4-5 months in Kano. He said it was one of the worst places he's worked and he does a lot of work in true shite holes in Central Asia.

I'll stay away from there. I'd actually be in Lagos which isn't as much of a muslim area (apparently it's a north/south thing there)

Brother did several stints in Chad in O&G. They had paramilitary security guards, so they were safe, but it's definitely unsafe

My uncle was there for 30 years. Got malaria a couple times and is now one weird motherfricker that he has retired and moved back stateside. No way he will ever adjust to living here again.

Met many guys who had their surgeries while they were back home. In between trips.

Said safety meetings consisted of not leaving the compound, "please don't mess with the Cobras." Whenever a large container or some drums were moved there was a 10% chance a cobra may run out. The local contractors would catch them and kill them to take home. To EAT! The meeting basically made it clear that they had zero anti venom and they were hours away from any. So if you got bit you were fricked.

Would have taken one cobra to put me back on a plane.

Depends on the work. If you're sitting a well or working an on/off its not bad. You can travel to take advantage of your down time. If it's day shift and you have to live there then it can be a little sketchy. Most of it depends on the company and the perks they will provide.

I've never been to Africa, but you won't make me believe that Nigeria is shitty than Niger or the Congo.
