Holy shite that's awesome. How could you tell it was valuable? Its weight?

That's like a once in a lifetime garage sale find

It is marked 14K, so it was a no-brainer.

As for once in a lifetime find, I do it all the time, but this is one of my biggest.

Patton's Jewelers said the retail is $2200, so I should get at least 40% of that ($800+). I will believe it when I see it.

I could sell it for about $175 just in scrap gold

I'm going to try to go to some garage sales on Friday. What's your strategy on what sales to go to? Estate or garage sales, old or newer neighborhoods, more promising advertisements?

I don't live in BR so I'm no competition to you.

Curious about the oil lantern.
Do you see a brand name on it.
I recently picked up a 1910 ship bow lantern that looks alot like it in some ways. The name on the latern is "Perko"

Looks just like this one.

I do both garage sales and estate sales. You will not get a find like this at an estate sale, because the estate sales are all over the jewelry, art work, furniture, etc. I get great toy, sports, tools, and oddity finds at estate sales. The estate sale companies usually pay no mind to these items and mark them for next to nothing.

Garage sales are a lot more fun, but you may hit 50 of them before you get a hit.

I only garage sale in older, rich neighborhoods (40+ years). This ring came from Waldon Estates, old money. I stick to the Highland Rd corridor for the most part, and the Garden District (but that is mostly new money).

The best estate sales are the ones given by the families (thinking they can do it their selves). There is a reason estate sales charge what they do, they know their business.

The one I bought is a Perko as well, made by Perkins of Brooklyn, NY. They are worth about $100 each. Mine is missing the oil insert, so about $50.

It seems this costume jewelry brooch I got from the same sale as the ring maybe worth more than the ring. It is not gold or has real stones, but the designer is HIGHLY collected. It may reach $1000, but I am expecting $300-$500.

I paid $2 for it

(the one on the right, the one on the left is worth about $100, designer not as collectible)

I work 4:30 to 4:30, so I wake up at 3:30 in the morning. Waking up at 6:00 on a Saturday is sleeping in for me, even when I stay up to midnight or later.

As for these two items I bought, I might finally break my goal of making $1000 on one single item.

I have made over $1000 many times (more than I can count), but never on one single item, only lots that I buy. I have hit $800 a few times.
