Happy Monday everyone, hope everyone finds a way to beat the heat this week. Just got back yesterday from Ft. Worth/Denton yesterday and it's amazing how much of a difference the humidity makes. In any case, here's the thread for the week. I finally found flights to NYC and Boston for under $200 and Los Angeles for $180. All prices are roundtrip and found using google flights/ Southwest's site. When I am posting the individual dates below, those are the cheapest dates to depart. The return flights are usually several days later (example depart Sat return Tues or Wed). Any requests just let me know.

New Orleans to:

Los Angeles: $180 on American, $184-$200 on United, $375 on Delta. Last three weeks of August until the first two weeks of December. In January I'm even finding roundtrip for $196. Some weeks have better availability than others, easy to observe using google flights.

San Francisco: $278 on American, a few dates for $286 on United. Last week of August through first two weeks of December. Mostly Tues, Wed, Fri, Sats

NYC: $186 on American (Laguardia), $213 on United (Newark), $247 on Delta (JFK or LGA). Cheapest dates at $186 are Aug 22, 26, 27, Sept 2, Nov 12, Dec 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11. Most other dates are in the $213 range

Seattle: $270 on United, $288 on American, $307 on Alaska (nonstop). Last week of August through first week of November on United. First two weeks of December on American. Wide open availability

San Diego: $226 on American, $307 on United. Last two weeks of August, Sept 2, Oct 27, Dec 2, 4 ,5

Chicago: $97 on American or United. Aug 11, 25, Nov 14, Dec 5, 12. Other dates at $115 on United, Southwest, or American

Dallas: $81 on American or Southwest. Last two weeks of August through first two weeks of December. Over thanksgiving on Southwest it's at $150 currently for Mon or Tues Nov 23/24 to Sat Nov 28

Phoenix: $160 on American. Last two weeks of August, first two weeks of November, first two weeks of December.

Minneapolis: $166 on American, $188 on United, $315 on Delta. Tuesdays and Saturdays in September, October, November, and December.

Denver: $156 on American, $171 on United, $215 on Southwest. End of August through early December.

Orlando: $176 on American, $214 on US Air, $216 on United, $256 on Delta. Aug 21, 22, 28, 29, Nov 14, Dec 4, 5, 12

Boston: $189 on American, $182 on United, $247 on Jetblue, $214 Southwest in Sept. For our resident Abitafan, the flights are finally below $200. Leave on Tuesdays or Saturdays in Sept, Oct, first two weeks of Nov, and first two weeks of Dec. Fri- Tuesdays is pricing out at $217

I knew that I had seen it get under $200 last year, it was just a matter of time. Granted it's not the best times if you've got work Friday or Monday. There's some Fridays-Sundays for $270

That mid-week price in early November is perfect. Want to get back home then for my mom's 60th birthday and that'll be in the middle of the week anyway.

My inlaws have announced the idea to head to NYC for the US Open. Just waiting on the confirmation and then see what I can do with awards vs paying flights.

Hopefully these stick around but I imagine they will change right before I get that confirmation.

I'm jealous, I used to go as a kid every year to the Open and it was a great experience. Met Serena and Venus and got their autograph.

For the open, for later rounds Tues or Wed Sept 1/2- Sun Sept 6 is $186 on AA with a connection or $262 nonstop DL.

For the more adventurous. Here are some international flights I have been looking at that seem like great deals but you would have to book a separate flight (or transport) to Houston (about $110 rt from New Orleans):

Prices round trip from Houston:
Managua, Nicaragua -$161 (on Spirit Airlines including taxes but not including bags. I was looking at Flying out Sunday August 16th and coming back Saturday August 22nd.)

Moscow- $399 (on Singapore Airlines on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays; September 1st-December 1st)

Singapore - $712 (on United. Thursdays July 30-August 24)

Hong Kong -$736 (Air China. August 20-December 15)

Bangkok-$775 (Air China. August 20-December 15)

For some of the prices, I'd just drive the 4 hours to Houston and leave from there. The only issue with the Moscow flights is the price of a visa. I think it's $150 or $200 a person. I believe China has similar fees, but someone who's been there may know better.

I can be adventurous enough to go to Nicaragua or fly on Spirit. But not do both at the same time.

yeah, I've never flown Spirit but I have flown RyanAir and I assume they are similarly shite.

I thought about doing that when I flew to India. But then I thought about how screwed I'd be if my car decided to encounter a problem from NO to HOU. Plus the drive just absolutely sucks and how shitty driving back would be, parking, etc. Cost/Benefit analysis at that point. Then I just picked a flight that would be before the last flight that would get me there on time. That way I can hopefully get bumped back a flight if mine had a problem.

I'll be in Bangkok around Christmas if anyone wants a beer.

This is always my strategy. I never shoot for the last flight of the night because 1, they're usually delayed after rolling weather/maintenance delays throughout the day and 2, if you misconnect or something happens earlier in the day you can usually get on a later flight.

I actually just noticed a 5 minute schedule change on a United flight for the Sunday after the syracuse game this coming september. They were the last flights of the day from Buffalo-Newark-Nola and the connection went from 47 min to 42 min. I called and luckily they put me on a BUF-EWR flight an hour earlier for free. The fare class went from W to Y so that's even better.
