I had my moms 2004 Camry's transmission rebuilt this weekend. Cost about 2100. Got a small discount for paying cash.

Shouldn't a tranny be covered under a 5yr/100k power train warranty?

Also, is it a CVT? The CVT is very known to fail.

Your transmission is being torn up gear by gear. Something has probably broken off and is just grinding up the planetary gear. Same thing happened to me. My car limped home. The next morning it would not go into reverse. Had to have it towed to the transmission shop.

There are thousands upon thousands of CVTs on the road without any problems at all. It is as reliable as any other transmission.

I was going to ask what model dodge tou had, but then I realized you probably wouldn't have made it to 80k without issues

(For complete information, see your Nissan dealer and read the actual limited warranty.) For extra protection, you can also add Security+Plus®, the only extended service agreement approved by Nissan.

That sucks.

I guess it sucks if sucks means "a small percentage of owners of early models have concerns".

You can believe it or not, but he vast majority of the CVTs on the road have not had any problems. Have there been problems? Sure I never said it was bullet proof. Could it be improved upon? Absolutely.

This kind of reminds me of old timers that still won't buy car with an automatic in it.

Correct. Had to replace one in a Maxima a few years back. $4K on the nose and that was a total rebuild.

Dang - aren't we a tad bit pissy.

Congrats on the certification. I know that takes a lot of commitment.

Right here. Clutch pedal or bust. On the upshot, my wife pulled the boat out yesterday without even slipping the tires. Her manual has a hill assist electronic E brake feature, but apparently she can manage without it.
