I saw someone's diploma who went to Purdue online & it was specific that it was "Purdue Univ Global."

Yeah, some of them will have like a key term that differentiates it. Like "Executive 'insert degree name' University of 'insert school.'"

I agree but there's definitely a ceiling for someone who doesn't have a degree at most companies unless you happen to be tight with the owner or whatever. It seems like it usually doesn't even matter what the degree is in.

Honestly, I’ve worked for three Fortune 500 companies and they never asked for a copy of my diploma. I could be lying for all they know.

Plenty of people used their GI Bill with them and have been very successful. They used to come and speak with discharging veterans, but I’m not sure if they still do.

American Military University is another online school preferred by veterans. They are accredited by the APUS and CHEA among others.

Didn’t know CCs had 4 year degrees

Only in the most affluent communities.

For a master’s the CC must be in a gated community.

Once all of the statues are down and everyone finally trusts the science, I am sure this will change.

For some reason Purdue as created this separate “global” entity with its own specialized degrees. If you get a MS online from the Purdue school of engineering there is nothing that distinguishes the degree from one earned totally on campus.

It all depends on what you're doing the degree for. Granted I'm not a super high end CPA or anything, but I honestly haven't heard of a firm that really gives two shits where your masters and above is from.

I don't even have a masters, and other than being a pretty funny "fun fact" again nobody cares.

The downside is online degree’s require a lot more “busy work” than a traditional class. Most online schools are term based, where a class will last 8-10 weeks instead of semester based. Each week you will always have something due where as a traditional class, you’ll go a few weeks before a midterm essay is due or your next test. Online classes are heavily essay based and if a test is required, you’ll have to pay for a proctored service. You have to teach yourself everything and I wouldn’t recommend doing anything online for a STEM degree. They are great for a MBA or Master’s for teaching or RN to BSN, anything along those lines. They do allow you to balance working and attending school without any interruption, but you will only receive what you put into the program. I personally would not recommend any online schooling for an undergraduate degree unless you are already established and have a job. Night classes at a traditional school will be a much better investment for an undergraduate degree. For a non-STEM Master’s i’d only recommend going to an online school. You can finish a degree in around 13 months without interrupting your life what so ever.
