I see the same thing eventually happening to all of the new ginger-bread apartments they're putting up on Lee and Burbank. Give it 10 years... the whole area is gona be section 8.

Really great of Baton Rouge's local government to allow Section 8 housing next to LSU and places where LSU students hang out. Really great. fricking morons.
This is why BR sucks. No intelligent well intended leadership, just scumbag billboard lawyer types- or their "clients" - running the city into the ground. We have freaking bicycle memorials everywhere and I see idiots WALKING ON INTERSTATE ON RAMPS b/c no one thought to build a sidewalk in 30 years.

Won't be too long before the nearest student housing is in Gonzalez.

If LSU bought all the land around the campus and did this, how big of an outrage would it cause?

They would assimilate and march I imagine.
Muh diversity, muh gentrification is bad, muh racism.
Fort Sanders near UT has gone in the same direction although not nearly as bad.

They can't really do anything short of buying the land themselves and repurposing the property to be student housing.
But they don't have the money for that and the negative PR around buying minority dominated Section 8 and evicting them would be a non-starter for a public institution.
Basically, there is no hope outside of the property owners themselves shutting it down. They're just slumlords though, so they don't care.

Not on LSU property.
Legally, that is the city of BR’s mess because that is all incorporated into BR.

National outrage that they're trying to evict poor minorities.

Not defending the local government at all here... but is a property owner opening up to Section 8 housing something they can control?
I seem to remember some dude in Southdowns threatening to open all his rental houses up to Section 8 because of the law preventing cohabitation back in the day.

If I was Jeff Bezos rich i would buy the entirety of valley park and turn it into an IKEA/artisanal mayonnaise shop/Prius dealership/yoga gallery.

I lived at 1413 Jim Taylor Drive at one time. The apartment manager was a Honduran grad student named Silvia. She was a smokeshow.

Maybe when enrollment starts to dip because of crime. A lot of those places back there are owned by different companies/individuals.
Seems like it would be a long shot that LSU could buy them all. It sucks too because that's prime real estate.

With plans that good I can see why you aren’t Jeff Bezos rich

I lived on Alvin Dark in the late 90s. There was some crime like theft and vehicle burglaries back then but nothing like this.

I have a buddy that does it (only in shitty areas) and I believe he has told me that you have to get a permit for it in each location and they can deny it for a myriad of reasons, but rarely do because they don't care.
The local government just gives them out most of the time without thinking of the consequence.
