I hear you, I've been on a chartered jet with him a few times back in his prime. Made the Soul Plane look like a school bus for nuns.

EWE did more damage to this state/its citizens than any governor outside of the Longs & he may be close to them. He literally had his fingers in every piece of the state pie: if there was State money in it, he got his cut. What he did to the State's image cost the State AND its citizens millions of dollars in lost business/opportunities. Want to know who got all the initial video poker licenses?Only those who kicked in $25K; want to know who did not: the honest citizens of La. never had the chance. Want to know how much he cost the State when he had the State settle with Texaco for nickles on the dollar when the A.G.'s Office had Texaco by the balls? Millions and millions of dollars in that one scheme itself. And when the State loses money,so does the honest working citizens of the State. Course, he did get a 6' high brick fence all around his huge ranch in Texas as one favor from Texaco. etc etc etc etc

I was in BR in March 1997 staying at the Raddison for a seminar. Getting out of the car one night, I saw a silver haired gent in casual hunting style clothes get out of the SUV ahead of me. It sure looked like EWE, but he had been out of office and off TV for a while, so I was not sure.
I followed him at a distance and saw him go in the bar. I waited a minute, then went in. There were a few folks at the bar itself, but almost all the tables were empty. The gent I saw and another fellow were hunched over a table at the far corner of the room. Fit his MO. Must be him, I thought, and left.
Many months later I read in the paper that Eddie DeBartolo pleaded guilty to not reporting that EWE extorted him by sliding him a note with $400,000 on it, the price for swaying friends to grant Eddie a casino license. At the fricking Raddison bar. I checked my calendar for the March 5 meeting date. That was the night I was there.
A news article says the government secretly recorded the meeting. They probably wondered who the dude was that was tailing EWE in the hotel.

Steal? Thought he just shook down a bunch of fat cats that wanted a Casino? He stole from the average Louisiana citizen?

Like I said earlier. How many legitimate businesses did not come to LA bc they wouldn't pay him off? That money and the opportunities that would have come took millions if not billions out of Louisiana.
I'm sorry you think thieves only steal from you directly with a knife or gun.
He steered businesses away from LA to line his own pockets. It's not that hard to understand. Hell, he was convicted of the crimes. Case closed.

There is a pic in the lobby of the BR Ruth's Chris with him Wille Nelson and I think Dale Brown I love. That would have been a fun table.

It's amazing that no matter what picture he's in...he always looks like a piece of shite

Crumb-ball politician? Yes. Would I want to drink a highball/ run with him in his youth? Yes.

The thing about Edwards is there is no denying that he is a very capable, charismatic person with a brilliant mind. If he would have put all his talents to making Louisiana better, there is no telling the achievements he might have accomplished.

So you were indirectly a part of history. Pretty cool that you were there.

I was in the same city. So it is pretty cool for me too, right?

I had a container full of documents from my deceased father. While going through them I found a document from EWE signed to my dad. I'm sure EWE was happy it was buried in my dad's file cabinet and never discovered.
Before my pops passed away he told me about his dealings with EWE during the time LA was establishing the gambling industry. My family had ties to their family so it made sense that what my dad told me was factual. I just never had anything supporting his stories.
It was quite a find when I opened up this old container and found the document straight from EWE that backed my dad's story.

Confession time:
I mistakenly thought the thread title read, "Old pic of Erin Edwards"
So I clicked. This thread did not deliver.
