just showed him diving in and moving around on the surface with a flashlight. Say he would've seen something. How would they have retrieved it?
what would he have seen? some fishies?
Really a diver with a flashlight?

here is the depth picture from the article I linked. It's hard to comprehend how far down this ping sound is coming from, but this helps.
eta: shite it won't post
LINK
the towed pinger locator reaches a depth of 4600 feet
the maximum known diving depth of the deepest diving mammal is 9816
the Titanic was found at 12,500 ft. It took 73 years to locate the wreckage
the flight data recorders from Air France Flight 447 were found at 13,100 ft. Took 2 years to find
the maximum dive depth of Alvin, the first deep sea submersible capable of carrying passengers is 14,763
the depth the signal is being detected is around 15,000 ft

Official Thread: Missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
Not trying to be morbid, but lets just say they find this thing and are able to retrieve a large section of fuselage in 6 months or so. Can you imagine the condition the bodies will be in after sitting at the bottom of the ocean for that long? I would guess that at some point they would be munched on to the point of being skeletons, but think of all the stages before that point.
Lots of Big Crabs may be the silver lining

Regarding the bodies, I would imagine they wouldn't recover any due to the effects of pressure on them at that depth?? I haven't researched this just a guess
They recovered some of the Air France bodies from nearly that deep. I imagine as cold as it is down there, decomposition isn't much of a factor, and there isn't much, if any sea life that deep.

Why is this still headlining CNN? I'm having trouble understanding how this is still news.

They're about to locate the wreckage, probably within a few days to a week at most. That's pretty remarkable, don't you think?

I believe it when I see it. How many weeks these bozos been working on this? At what point do you honestly say "F it"?
Maybe I'm just skeptical because I'm tired of hearing CNN report this crap on their website in bold letters for weeks on end with absolutely nothing "breaking". They're making me visit Fox News.

Because they are ashamed of what is occurring within the Obama administration, the same administration they forced down the throats of the American people.

I'm going to admit my ignorance and comment that I never realized that the Titanic wreckage wasn't even located for 73 years. It was just something I never thought about.

A lot of Fox's primetime programming (O'Reilly, Kelly File) beats the shite out CNN's primetime coverage, but their non-stop coverage of MH370 has bridged the ratings gap somewhat. Fox gives it minimal coverage because their audience is older and more concerned with the economy, foreign policy, healthcare, etc. while CNN's younger audience eats up the human interest stories. Don Lemon's show is basically a goofy-arse, watered down "news" show that talks nothing but human interest pieces and constantly features moronic tweets from idiot viewers to gain more interest.
I'm not a big CNN guy, but I really do love listening to the panel of experts they bring in and am admittedly engrossed by this story. The pilots, oceanographers, satellite experts, etc. bring a lot of good info to the story that has turned me into a novice instead of a complete ignoramus in those fields. Obviously the story is tragic, but it's fascinating seeing everything that's happening to find this plane. On one hand I'm surprised at the incompetence and inability to find a Boeing 777 in 2014, but on the other I find it remarkable that they've been able to pinpoint where this plane most likely is without any hard, tangible evidence of where it went.

A Malaysian official denied a report Saturday that the co-pilot of the doomed Malaysia Airlines flight made a “desperate” cellphone call before its demise, further complicating the confusion-shrouded investigation.
Malaysia’s New Straits Times, citing unidentified investigators, said they discovered co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid had placed a call when the plane was flying about 200 nautical miles northwest of Penang. Its low altitude allowed for a telecommunications tower to pick up the signal, according to the report.
NBC News has not been able to independently confirm the report, and a Malaysian official said Saturday he “doesn’t think this is true.”
The latest knocked-down report comes as an earlier New Straights Times report last month claimed the plane was flying at a low altitude to avoid being detected by radar. But Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, head of a new Joint Agency Coordination Center, later said, “We don't know what altitude the aircraft was travelling at.”

They recovered a lot from Air France with a submarine.

Did the pilot set off an explosive device with his phone?
Posted on 4/15/14 at 3:53 am to rebeloke
I'm guessing the pilot locked the copilot out of the cockpit when he went to the can, and the copilot was trying to call for help.
Posted on 4/15/14 at 6:51 am to Jim Rockford
They are now saying is was pilot's cell that attempted a call.

Read that last night... His phone was the ONLY one that pinged the tower.
Pretty odd considering the pilots interviewed said that it is a major no-no for a pilot to have his phone on. Also weird being his phone is the ONLY one of 200+ that pinged the tower for a signal.
