What's the law? Did he act professionally? No. But there was an accident with a fatality involved. The longer the patient goes without the lab draw, the longer drugs/alcohol have to metabolize out of their system. I've seen it done here on unconscious pt's. No issues from nursing or administration. I wasn't directly involved, but I have wondered what the exact protocol is.

The patient was the victim of police and a suspect in a high speed chase stupid frick, and he had already been injected with narcotics because he had severe life threatening burns. There was zero reason to need his blood.

The nurse did the right thing 100%. She followed her code of ethics. She refused to break the law despite an out of control authoritative cop.

I watched the 28 minute body cam video that shows what happened.

I would give her whatever she asked for in a civil suit against that Police Dept.

The guy bullied her all the way and then lunged at her in anger at the end.

If she asked for $2mm I would giver her $5MM.

The hospital had the agreement document between the PoPo dept and the hospital. The request met none of the agreed conditions.

I understand the PoPo's were trying to blame the wreck where a criminal they were chasing crashed into the badly burned man in the hospital on the burned guy and were hoping they might show alcohol in him and deflect trouble for causing the wreck by saying he was alcohol impaired.

It wasn't just this man. His supervisor ordered him m to arrest her then doubled down by going, in person, to tell her she was obstructing justice. I hope the supervisor is investigated and not just the cop.

The guy they tried to take blood from is a part time cop and truck driver.

I see this type of behavior(not necessarily to the extent this a-hole went, but close) often at my job with the entitled baby boomer generation. They don't understand, and are absolutely shocked when someone tells no

Baby Boomers have a work ethic that greatly exceeds that of millennialis. The "no" to which you are referring is probably some spoiled millenial brat saying "no, that's not in my job description" when asked to do a little more than the minimum.

See, this is the problem. Why can't they both fricking suck? Because they do. And trust me, the most spoiled at my particular job are the boomers. Did I mention they fricking suck? They want others to pick up their slack, what's in their job description, simply because they're older or been there longer, or "paid their dues".

When you've reached the point that your main priority is protecting your job, and not actually doing your job, we have a major problem. This mentality is my primary issue with the boomers.

Millennials may be lazy, I don't doubt that, but boomers, they're definitely entitled too. Millennials may think they're entitled to a job, but boomers think they're entitled to keep a job, no matter the performance. 2 sides of the same coin.

Officer Payne is a world class douche.

Yep. Zero chance that cop didn't know the law. It was a blatant attempt to find a way to blame the victim of a police chase and take liability off the department.

It's disgusting.

Had she done anything different she could/would have lost her job and her lic. She very well could have never worked again in nursing.

This was obviously a fishing expedition to mitigate liability for the department that initiated the police chase that caused the accident.

Policeman said in video the sample would benefit the patient if there was a lawsuit, then nurse said they already administered narcotics and would not be valid.

When idiot cops do stuff like this, it only gives ammo for the anticop people when a good cop gets in an altercation with a real bad guy. This happened a month ago and there were no consequences until the nurse went public. It is time the thin blue line stops protecting bad cops. They even do stupid stuff that gets them fired and a department down the street hires them. Cant give people that carry guns and can take people's freedom second and third chances.
