I couldn't work somewhere where people were checking the clock when I walked in the door or timing my lunch breaks. That must be awful.

I've never had a job where the rules discussed in this thread apply. I was in public accounting with a Big 4 firm. What mattered was getting the job done. I was highly productive, so no one cared if I came in later or took a long lunch. I now work from home so there are zero office rules for me now.

that was my husband back in high school/college. Pissed him off that they all got breaks while he had to keep working. Kicked the habit a few years later, thankfully-- told him it was me or cigarettes.

Sounds like the BS is the main problem, a cigarette doesn't take more than 4 or so minutes

Really? You have no idea why schools enforce a tardiness policy?

People I work with will stand outside and smoke 2 cigarettes and bs for at least 10 minutes before they come back in. Not really jealous, it's hot as frick outside.

Didn't realize some companies still hire smokers.

you know somethin'?

just show up on time and do your job and come back from break ontime and don't worry about what everybody else is doing...and you won't have any problems.

the boss will either do his job, or he won't. your job description doesn't include watching the boss or everyone else either.

When I first started I was surprised by it and joked with my team about that is 4 women and 1 other guy that I wanted to put the sports illustrated calendar up just for the hell of it. They suggested I should, just to see what would happen.

I'm pretty sure that they would have a case for sexual harassment against you if they wanted to be real bitches. At least I had a training at work that claimed such things can qualify as sexual harassment.

Surely an exponential relation.

Does "clock punching" count?

Yes, I did that shite for the first year of work out of college, which is reasonable, but I couldn't imagine having to deal with that shite as an established professional.
