articles were saying the sink hole here locally was going to be a multi kiloton explosion too...anything for an attention grabbing headline

Uhhhh...this is different. Let's look at the facts:

1) There indeed is an underground nuclear waste dump at West Lake Landfill that has existed since the 1970s. The nuclear material is leftover waste from the Manhattan Project in the 1940s.

2) There is another landfill (Bridgeton Landfill) that is adjacent to the nuclear waste site, and that landfill is experiencing an unmanageable underground chemical fire that experts believe is moving towards the underground nuclear dump. At the moment the fire is only 1,000 feet away from the dump.

3) Consultants are mixed on what could happen if the fire reaches the dump. Their conclusions range from 1) nothing will happen, to 2) radon gas will steam out of the nuclear site, to 3) a massive nuclear waste explosion that releases nuclear dust over the area (ie. Chernobyl-type event).

4) The State of Missouri, EPA (ie. West Lake Landfill), and the Bridgeton Landfill all disagree on what could happen if the fire reaches the nuclear site.

It was probably Mormons that started this dump site since it was legal to kill them at the time

I don't doubt it.

Or it could be the redlegs trying to finish yall off

Redlegs always screw up. They don't have the capacity to pull off this type of conspiracy. I mean, they tore down the goal posts at KU's Memorial Field to celebrate the Royals winning the World Series. Think about that.

The Mormons however....

People need to chill the frick out.

All Obama needs to do is get congress to pass a law that forbids underground nuclear landfill fires.

Problem solved.

To be fair, a Rolling Stone article from 2013 says that the fire was only 1,200 feet away, so apparently the fire is moving at a snail's pace.

I think Detroit has been a nuclear disaster zone since about the mid 80s.

I wonder what Nelly thinks of this situation. That landfill would definitely benefit from some country grammar

Regardless, it's moving toward the nuclear dump. What should be done?

West LAKE landfill???? There was a fire similar? to this is Sterlington area years ago. The carbon black had been dumped behind the plant for approx. 40 years. Seems like it was a large area. Drought came, grassfire got into carbon black disposal area. Incredible sight - black, semi-fixed tornados with fire coming out their sides. Anyways, after a while (too long) they finally pumped water into the area from the Ouachita River (about a mile away), and it eventually put it out.

I want to know more about the fire.

How long has it been burning?
What started it?
Why can't it be slowly and systemically put out?

The EPA is on a fricking roll lately. Nice to see such an efficient and effective federal agency in operation.
