Yes I did. I don't think it's evil. I think a 15 year hard labor sentence is extreme for his crime but it's not evil.

Chances are highly likely this kid didn't actually steAL anything.
He might have???

The fact that they make him read a prepared statement claiming he was paid by the US government and some American church to steal the sign is all the proof you need.

Prepared statements under duress are par for the course when dealing with a country trapped in 1955.

Would involve slaughtering millions of ignorantly obedient sheeple.

Any children of the 90s remember the hipster that got caught stealing in Singapore. He got sentenced to a few lashes of a cane across his arse and the entire nation freaked out.

What was the Vince Vaughn movie about similar? Gut-punch of a movie. Punishment on the table was hanging though not caning.... In the movie.

I wasn't arguing guilt or innocence. If he didn't then the government should get him back. If he did then good luck.

The prisoners are forced to perform hard and dangerous slave work with primitive means in mining and agriculture. The food rations are very small, so that the prisoners are constantly on the brink of starvation. In combination with the hard work this leads to huge numbers of prisoners dying. An estimated 40% of prisoners die from malnutrition.[19]

Moreover, many prisoners are crippled from work accidents, frostbite or torture. There is a rigid punishment in the camp. Prisoners that work too slowly or do not obey an order are beaten or tortured.[20] In cases of stealing food or attempting to escape, the prisoners are publicly executed.

However unlikely it is but it would absolutely be evil if has to live out the sentence.

You act like the guy is gonna go get him a farmers tan and learn the meaning of hard work...

I really don't know how this shite works...but if he's put through what the North Koreans are, he'll be permanently frickED if he even survives.

Well I feel the US should show NK you do not treat US citizens like that. Extract the kid and bring him home.... Then throw him in a jail here for 5 years for acting stupid abroad.

What do some of you think would happen if we just completely cut them off from aid? I wouldn't mind it. I would reduce our spending so it is a win for me.

because this sounds like a true story
quote:

In a tearful statement made before his trial, Warmbier told a gathering of reporters in Pyongyang he tried to take the banner as a trophy for the mother of a friend who said she wanted to put it up in her church.
He said he was offered a used car worth $10,000 if he could get a banner and was also told that if he was detained and didn't return, $200,000 would be paid to his mother in the form of a charitable donation.

I think that he'll be back home by Christmas. According to the Wiki info concerning Americans detained by NK, NK won't keep him for a long time.

I agree with those who have posted that he won't be staying in one of NK's worst prisons.

Nothing would happen. Maybe some political posturing, or a strongly worded email. Someone might take it upon themselves to hold a press conference and use the publicity to slip in some social issues.

Kim Jong-un is little more than a pube on a toilet seat. He just sits there and gets pissed off, but there isn't anything he can do outside of torture his own people.

The only reason he's still alive is because he's the devil we know.

Drunk driving is stupid and selfish, but usually does not involve pre meditation many times. This guy planned this trip and probably spent a lot of time and coin to get there. Stirred shite and cot caught.
According to the story, he got in trouble because of something stupid he did...while drunk.

I hope you get railroaded and sent to jail. Would be well deserved IMO.
