nola.com insurance special report accurate?

LINK

$25,000 a year for insurance? This sounds like a MASS exodus from Coastal Louisiana is about to begin unless you cash out some savings and pay off your home. In any event, this would literally KILL the entire coastal Louisiana economy for decades. No way is someone going to spend more per month on insurance vs their own house note.

That's for people 10 or more feet below flood level. Why do you think the rest of us should subsidize that?

I dont think a penny of mine should go to anyone living in a flood zone. You should be on you own.

If you're a registered driver in the state of Louisiana with insurance, don't think you aren't subsidizing Larry the Meth Head from Livingston Parish or Laexcretia with 7 kids from 8 different men to drive.

Wait until Nola's levees get decertified, then you will really hear some bitching.

I don't see the humor, Sid.

There are many miles of levees all throughout this country that are far inferior to the ones around NOLA. Even if you think NOLA has no political clout, these other places do. I don't think the political reality will allow that to happen.

The attitude in Vicksburg is that Nola already got theirs. If the money gets shut off, it will only be a matter of time.

The more likely remedy will be revision of the NFP.

Found this quote interesting:

quote:

But Graves said the rates set by Congress also penalize the state's residents for decisions made long ago by the federal government to protect navigation on the Mississippi River with river levees and jetties that blocked sediment carried by the river from entering wetlands and forming and sustaining surge-buffering land along the coast.

So basically people living in a flood zone along the Mississippi River, and protected by taxpayer-funded levees, are whining about paying for coastal Louisiana residents to live in a flood zone.

Of course, these are the same "self reliant" Midwesterners who make money hand over fist from corn based ethanol and getting paid to NOT grow crops.
