That is some NASTY water. Who the hell would even think to swim in that river? Just from the nature of swimming you will always get some water in your mouth and in your body. That's just gross. I'd rather swim at the BREC.

They are still looking for someone in the water as of 5am

Damn.... That really sucks to hear. But that is so incredibly dangerous, I'm shocked to hear someone do it there. Those currents are very deceiving from the moon walk.
been a lot of press lately about how dangerous it is to swim in the lake... so maybe the tribe just migrated to the river to cool off.

So we get up this morning and it seems that they did not find him. But we also don't know who they took away in the ambulance last night. Apparently it was someone unrelated to the river swimmer.

If only people knew what was put back into the river from the plants. EPA and RCRA restrictions are usually met but sometimes barely. I refuse to drink potable water that has been supposedly stripped and distilled.

Great reporting there, supa

My pops grew up in Jackson barracks right by the river. I can remember being a little kid and he taking me to go play in the batcher in old Kenner. You don't get in the fricking river.

They just found him
We watched them fish him out
He was floating in the exact spot behind the Washington Artillery Park where NOPD was last night. My brother said he saw the guy swimming yesterday out past the front edge of the Natchez which is about 50yds into the river.
My guess is the bad weather from this afternoon caused him to pop up and lodge on the bulkhead at the foot of the steps on the river
Apparently what we saw last night was someone fell on the rocks in almost the exact same spot they found the floater tonight.

I've always been under the impression that swimming in the Mississippi in the NOLA area = guaranteed death. I feel kind of stupid being wrong, but not nearly as stupid as the people that actually went swimming in the MS River.

Same I thought it was a given that you'd die if you tried swimming in it.

There was a couple of people swimming yesterday by the shore. He kept going further out and got about 50yds off the shoreline. Then he just disappeared.
He was a guy living in a homeless shelter, and he no doubt went out too far, got tired and was dragged under. He has probably been floating under the surface in this area since yesterday and the bad weather we got brought him up. The wind and rain was howling from Algiers point towards the French Quarter this evening.

How far out from the shore can one reasonably swim before getting fricked? Seriously, this whole "swimming in the Mississippi River around NOLA" thing is new to me.

The whole thing reminds me of going on the Natchez for a grade school field trip. The guy bringing us on the boat showed us the rescue floatie circle things, but basically said "they won't help you if you fall into the river, you're dead regardless."

Body is in a cadaver bag on the ground on the shoreline. There is a train passing by so the NOPD is waiting for the train to pass so the coroner's bus can take him away.
His name was Dave Hebron, 42yr old

I was up there around 7 this evening. Something fierce. All the water movement probably knocked him loose.

We had a storm come from the south and another from the north shore and they converged right on top of the FQ. The weather was incredible for about two hours

I got drenched walking from Toulouse/Chartres to the French Market... with an umbrella. Still better than 100 degrees though.

FQ needed a good rain to wash away all the stink from the heat. Some parts of the FQ were unbearable from the beer and drinks poured in the gutters. Rains came and washed it all away.
