Yeah, I know. It's still irritating though. Maybe it will be awesome and we will all love it.

You haven't seen the lighted fountains in the canals on Earhart?

Are these the same people that put fountains in the drainage pools around Clearview and Earhart? It looks so ridiculous

I'm down for anything that makes the area bit better to look at. And if none of my tax dollars are used doing it, that's just a bonus.

I'm not holding my breath on big things that need to be done getting done, so I'll take any little concession I can get

If that Mellow Mushroom has a front side patio, I guess it can be a visual aesthetic thing that the owner(s) pushed for.

I've only seen the MM downtown here and it has a patio along its stretch of the sidewalk.

The lights in the canals will complement the neon glow from all the chain restaurant's signage

I thought those were to keep the water flowing to combat mosquitoes setting up shop there...or is that not how it works?

Too bad there are so many miles of it. Too expensive to make it all nicer.

Lots of money for a block.

Going from this

to this

would cost $2,300/linear foot.

And going from original to this:

Would cost about $3,100/linear foot.

That's Canal Street Canal in Metairie for anyone who's interested. There are a few costs in there that could be cut if need be, but that gives you an idea of costs. We've looked at designs for most of the canals in Jefferson and Orleans Parish. All can and should be redone. Did you know the walls on the Orleans Parish canals are no longer needed?

More canal designs can be found here.

Now the bike path or walking path idea I like. It's actually useful. Or do one of those fountains that kids run in and stuff. Those are cool. Not sure it would be all that safe with traffic flying by on both sides though.

Jefferson Parish pretty regularly keeps their system flowing. Mainly because of water hyacinth and mosquitoes. They'll siphon water from one pump station and turn on another pump station, thus bunching all the hyacinth up at one station to be pulverized and dumped in the lake, where it then reproduces again.

I understand they have donations to build it, but who is going to pay for the annual upkeep? taxpayers?
