It was really hard to get a cab in BR unless you were in tigerland

If you want to post dumb shite about NOLA just post piss & bums. Uber is a controversial service across the globe, fact.
Again, passively accepting of corruption.

Do you even realize that the discussion is not about taxi cabs ? Uber is trying to break into the market with uber black, a high end black car service.
How?

Like what? That city's cab scene is straight up awful.

"The goal is to get companies like those to come into Baton Rouge by establishing a friendly legal environment for them to open up," Delgado says, adding that he's already spoken with representatives from Uber and another similar transportation companies interested in expanding into Baton Rouge. "This would both create new jobs and reduce the number of DUIs in Baton Rouge by providing people with an alternative method of transportation, all at zero cost to the taxpayers."

because you are ignoring the fact that cities like Detroit already have Uber by saying its caused problems else where. I am just rolling my eyes at the people saying this is not business as usual in New Orleans.

I used Nawlins Cab app during fest and never waited long at all. I love being able to see where your driver is while he's on the way.
frick United.

Then you are ignorant to the topic. Did you not see Winkface comment about the cabs being on strike while she was in France. This isn't just NOLA being NOLA. Plus I'll say it again. ITS NOT THE TAXI SERVICE BEING TALKED ABOUT TODAY ITS THE BLACK CAR SERVICE.
Over last two and a half years the city council and mayor have been reforming the taxi industry here with much push back from the cab drivers. Now is not the time to bring in a 3rd party right in the middle of the new regulations.
Plus IMO uber just makes it easier for corruption. Having one group over the cab industry is a lot easier to have people getting paid off than if you have a bunch of independents running around controlling the industry.

And why is that?
It is certainly not because uber doesn't want uber or uberx in New Orleans

You sir are an idiot. Stick to things you know something about

Have there been accusations of corruption directly related to Uber from other cities?

I'll believe this when I see it. That being said, BR has the "advantage" that cabs aren't very powerful, so there won't be this devoted anti-Uber block. Of course BR's cabs aren't powerful mostly because they barely even exist.

I fully believe uber wants to be Baton Rouge to gain public support in New Orleans.

I think the problem in BR has to do with issuance of licenses to the companies and drivers. Someone is in good with the city government, and is holding progress back there

Is anyone there? I would love to hear how the turnout is. I despise the Nola cab companies and would love for Uber to come here! If they did I would strictly use them and wouldn't even take a free ride from a Nola cab company!

I'm here and I spotted Zealot and ladytiger118 wearing "Uber or Riot" shirts

wonder how many union workers and price-control proponents the liberal city council members paid to be in the crowd today to drown out the voice of paying consumers?

Bump anyone at the meeting today?
Today has been my first day back at work since the previous Thursday so needless to say I couldn't make it. :(
And TWise your arguments are way off bro. We need to have a sit down over a Hurricane Saison so I can explain how this improves our city that no questions or arguments can come close to countering.

Knowing the cab inspectors, any pro-Uber attendees should be wary of physical attacks.
