North Korea has forbidden people from making sarcastic comments about Kim Jong-un or his totalitarian regime in their everyday conversations.

Even indirect criticism of the authoritarian government has been banned, Asian media reported.

Residents were warned against criticising the state in a series of mass meetings held by functionaries across the country.

quote:

“One state security official personally organised a meeting to alert local residents to potential ‘hostile actions’ by internal rebellious elements,” a source in Jagang Province told Radio Free Asia’s Korean Service.

“The main point of the lecture was ‘Keep your mouths shut.’”

The caution was also issued in neighbouring Yangang Province, sources revealed.

Officials told people that sarcastic expressions such as “This is all America’s fault” would constitute unacceptable criticism of the regime.

That's a solid policy.

I'm pretty skeptical of things like this - DPRK is certainly a shithole, but I have a feeling that our journalists paint absurd portraits of them. It's hard to distinguish between parody and reality.

I think a better idea for him would be to ban anybody from capping him in the back of the head, Of Mice And Men-style. Cuz rabbits or not, that shite is gonna happen, George.

It is incredible to see an entire country consumed by mental illness. The leaders and the followers are all insane.

From what I've seen, some of the people there are well educated, and I'm sure their brain is telling them things are fricked up, it's just that they know the punishment is death or gulag, so they'll say or do whatever they have to, to survive.

I'm sure that'll lend itself to its own form of PTSD once it ends though.

This bloodline is impressively insane. Three generations of absolutely brutal, insane leaders who have maintained firm grips on power in spite of their reigns of lunacy and terror.

That there hasn't been a coup or assassination on Un, Il, or Sung is a testament to the state of terror or incompetence in the North Korean military and political leadership. Perhaps both.

The only people in position to do so are the power elite that benefit from the regime. Idiots here whine about the "1%." Over there, it's more like 1% of 1%.

Is TD all that different from NK? I got banned for making a sarcastic comment praising Johnny Jones once.
