quote:

"We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did," Ehrlichman, who served time in prison stemming from a conviction related to his role in the Watergate scandal, plainly told Baum.

Not quite breaking news, but it's nice to hear someone admit it.

So the war on drugs was waged against those who sell and use drugs.

And is an abject failure. Big pharm, alcohol and tobacco have the money. The prohibition of weed is one of the worst examples of an oligarchy in power, with no regard for the truth.

Sounds like it was a war against protests since it was to stop both whites and blacks

I met Erlichman a few times before his death when he was a patient a hospital I worked at. He was a bitter and angry man but razor sharp and witty as hell.

I'll never forget walking into his room for the first time and introducing myself only to have him reply "do you know who I am?" I simply indicated that I knew his name and he said something to the effect of "who writes the fricking history books nowadays". Lol...

Just more proof of what a massive POS Nixon was. Man, what a run of terrible leaders during that era with George Wallace, LBJ, Nixon, and Ford. Why couldn't we have had Goldwater?

Personally I'm all for legalizing marijuana and quitting this dumb 'war', but I don't give a lot of credence to someone who hasn't been relevant in decades. This dude may just be looking to cash in whatever chips he has left at this point.

The dumbass Reagans didn't help with Just Say No. I have seen a lot of people proclaim that Reagan was a great POTUS but he was far from it. Every one since Nixon has supported the WOD so it makes them all POS IMO.
