You and the 41 upvoters missed the entire point. It was not about drugs. It was used to vilify hippies and blacks. Drugs were the rational do meet their primary objectives.

dumbass Reagans didn't help with Just Say No. I have seen a lot of people proclaim that Reagan was a great POTUS but he was far from it. Every one since Nixon has supported the WOD so it makes them all POS IMO.
Man...you sound like you need a joint in your life right now.

Do you know what the Columbian drug traffic was doing to South Florida at the time? It was a war zone.

This dude may just be looking to cash in whatever chips he has left at this point.
Ehrlichman has been cashed in since 1999, as in dead.
Ironically he died on Valentine's Day. I was about the only way that prickly SOB could get flowers on VD.

Weeds banning was absolutely racial back in the day
Somewhat. A lot of it also had to do with the fact that during prohibition marijuana got much more popular as it was a substitute for getting drunk. The government realized that people were using it to get into an altered state of mind, though different than alcohol, and decided to ban it.

Marijuana is just a gateway drug that leads to harder substances and addiction.

And alcohol is so much better for the brain and liver, right?

FIFY
Time to ban it. Prohibition time.

Yeah, because every president only has this issue to deal with and define them.

And the war on Cocaine was because DC hated Columbians, riiiiight.
It is pretty dang easy to say that the war on any drug is because the government hates the most active and known users. Frankly, I don't really blame them or think there was a whole lot wrong with that line of thought.
Criminals do whatever it takes to skirt the law, sometimes the government has to bend and operate in the gray area to stop them.

quote:Maybe so, but when you break the law you give government a means to prosecute you. The hippies and blacks did have a choice to stop using drugs didn't they? (Im not arguing if weed should be legal or not. It isn't and wasn't but they chose to disobey the law).

As he should have. Lockup the useless bastards who commit street level crimes. Perfect move. There's only one cultural group responsible for half the crimes.
Profile them. Lock these animals up and lose the key.
