I believe that camera man was part of a news crew filming a story on nightclub safety.

I assume he was pretty well-versed by then on what to do. So damn sad.

Regardless of what type of fire rating the sound baffling above the stage had, it was just absurd to use that kind of pyro in a club that small.

There were several settlements paid, one of the largest was 30 million by the local TV station who's video journalist was accused of blocking the exit and failure to render aid. I wonder if it was this guy filming?

One net positive from that video/incident, though: How many people note the emergency exits when out in public now after having been made aware of that incident?

(Well, that and not shooting off pyrotechnics in some shitty club.)

We always do, and look where life jackets are on boats. A lot of this changed for us when we first had kids 9 years ago, and these incidents (and their graphic videos) serve as powerful reminders to be aware.

Amazing how fast it spread and the smoke at the 1 minute mark.

Wasn't there charges file against the band?

Pretty sure it wasn't that guy. The guy in the video seemed to be trying to help. He went to exits that no one was looking at and was asking if anyone was in there, even sticking his head in the smoke filled hallways. Eeriest thing was that no one answered.

Its hard stomaching these videos. But the red writing on the black background combined with the graniness of the video doesn't help either. fricking horror movie intro with real life consequences.

I believe most exits were closed. I recall several survivors talking about the bouncers wouldn't open the doors.

There was one guy that was found alive about 2 hours later. He was at the bottom of the pile and amazingly survived.
