The problem with even the Murder Rate is that it is not truly an accurate number. They only count it as a murder if the person is dead on the ground or they die within 1 day of being transported to a hospital. After 1 day in the hospital the NOPD declares the death as a medical death or whatever the fancy term it is that they use. The OP Sheriff's office does the same thing--you have an inmate who has been stabbed 50 times--transport him over as quick as possible to the LSUMC and let him die there so it isn't reported as a murder in the jail

any documentation of that... say, a couple examples?

New Orleans trying to take back their place as the murder rate capital.

What's sad, is that a lot of those idiots brag about shite like that. How fricking sad can one culture be when it brags about being number 1 in murder rate?

It's like their birth right down there.

Eventually they will kill each other off. Im sorry, you just don't see Caucasians, Asians, Jews etc doing this to each other. I hate to compare New Orleans "city culture" to somewhere like Syria but that is the closest example I can think of.

They travel in a pack you see them in the Bywater (cuz the PBR and a shot of Evan Williams is cheap) or Parasol, they are usually arguing about the death penalty or their new rescue puppy. The dudes look emaciated the females have big asses.

that stood out as very contrary to my knowledge of the situation too -- sounded more urban legend than factual... hence i was curious about any example....

Oh you've seen them! It's hilarious to see a kid that gets 10 or 15k a month in the mailbox drinking PBR

"Oscar Fuselier is one of seven OPP inmates since Hurricane Katrina whose deaths are not counted by Gusman's office. Those seven inmate names don't appear on any official count of the jail's dead because Gusman's office had them released from custody after they were transferred to a hospital, a practice that critics say is an intentional circumvention of the public reporting requirements for in-custody deaths."

bywater bars are pretty fun to get drunk and people watch, as much as I'd hate to deal with those types of people outside of that environment.

I'm sure the more we talked about the statues, the more it affected them. So that is the answer to the Q1 increase. Q2 will be much better, you will see. Mitch knows what the people want /s

Trend 7 - The Interesting Unknowns

Two incident type trends jump out as being of interest without an obvious explanation. Unclassified deaths (signal 29U) are up nearly threefold from where they were on average from 2010 to 2013, and "officer needs assistance" (signal 108) calls were up substantially in 2015. These changes defy simple explanation, so more research in 2016 will hopefully help identify potential causes.
