New Orleans activities for out of staters...

I've got family members meeting us in New Orleans the first weekend of March. I need recommendations on things that they need to see. I think I've got the restaurants covered. They will be in town 3 nights.
Also, where to stay out of these: Ritz, Monteleone, Hilton, Omni, Le Pavillion, or other.
Thanks.

it's tacky for locals but they would probably enjoy a swamp tour

What restaurants are you planning?

I like the idea of a good swamp tour.
For in-town activities on the cheap, the ferry & back, ride the St. Charles streetcar out and back. Stop along the way and eat. The WWII Museum is possibly the best history museum in the US. I can't get enough. But you won't likely be in a party atmosphere afterward. Walk up Royal and back on Decatur or Chartres. Please stay off Bourbon. Eat half-price pizza at Domenica during their happy hour.

If you ride any public transportation, bus or streetcar, buy a day pass so you can get on and off if you want to wander around.
You can take the Magazine bus from Canal Street to the antique shops.
You can also take the riverfront streetcar from Poydras to the French Market.

Very cliche' but a carriage ride in The Quarter. Learned a ton of shite on that ride.

Bayou Boogaloo
A leader in cultural tourism since 1937, the New Orleans Spring Fiesta Association is a non-profit organization with a simple mission: "To preserve and share the cultural heritage of New Orleans, to promote the preservation of the region's history and historic architecture, and to educate others regarding the importance of that history."
The New Orleans Spring Fiesta Association maintains headquarters in a beautiful 19th century townhouse located at 826 St. Ann Street in the historic Vieux Carré (French Quarter). This beautiful house boasts of a lovely courtyard fountain, garconniere, large double-parlors, and an elegant dining room. A breathtaking spiral staircase leads upstairs to a library and three bedrooms.

If you're looking to see the city, I recommend going taking a bicycle tour with Buzz Nola. I'm from Louisiana and we took the tour and learned a lot we never knew. Plus you don't have to worry about parking, etc
