The city government is so corrupt and inefficient that they have no money despite all of the tourism dollars.

If MSY were a hub we'd see even more tourists and business activity in both BR and NOLA.
IMO that's worth trying to get. Don't think it will be possible unless BR and NOLA cooperate and build an airport somewhere around LaPlace or Gonzales and agree to shut down the existing airports completely.
Or if another million people just decide to move to Louisiana and settle in the area between the two cities. Seems even more unlikely than NOLA cooperating with anyone for a huge regional goal especially after dumping money into a new terminal.

Yeah the regional airport idea is never going to work.
Luckily Nola is getting more and more international flights and the new airport under construction just had a modification done to add more gates.

Yeah. It sucks but Louisiana is not capable of parlaying that tourism appeal into an airline hub.
The tourists help keep the bars and restaurants open in an otherwise struggling city, but it's not quite enough to attract a hub or semi-hub like Orlando or Tampa has been able to do.
That would really help encourage other business investment in the region. Maybe we let the airlines merge and consolidate a little too much in this country.

It's not because of corruption.
It's because the revenue the city makes from Hotels, Events etc goes to other cities in the state.
And people like me can't get raises because the Mayor says we're broke.
New Orleans caters to the tourist and takes care of the rest of the state, but shits on its residents and employees.

NOLA is nothing but piss and bums. I saw a shooting every day the one time I went there.
