We ordered a new vehicle months ago...tracked it through production, across the ocean, and into port. It was released from port on the 6th of this month in Brunswick Georgia. Irma happened. Our delivery date was the 11th. Literally no word. We have a loaner, but we're getting nervous the car was damaged.

Neither the dealer nor the US corporate will give us any details. What can we do? Would you get the vehicle inspected before taking delivery? Is that even an option on a new vehicle?

Delivery arranged with dealership or third party service?

ETA: this question does not effect the outcome of the OT baller answer.

Just don't worry about that one and buy a new one.

Dealership. I say delivery, but we have to drive down to go get it.

I'd want to be there when it finally shows at your dealer and go over it very well before accepting the vehicle.

That's where you fricked up. Never trust those pesky Swedes. Does Volvo still do the "buy a new car, get free vacation to Sweden" deal?

not sure how it works on cars, but clearing customs with other products can take some time and there aren't ever any updates.

How does one check for water damage? What if there was paint work done?

We paid a $2k deposit, but I'm not sure what else we're roped into.

I have debated buying a Volvo just for this.

Then I remember I would have to drive a volvo.

Years ago my dad ordered a car and while in transit across the Atlantic, the ship carrying his car and hundreds of others sank.

Sorry, that's all I've got.

Not sure for exterior damage. But for interior, I'd think smell would give it away. It should smell exactly like any other new one on their lot.

It most likely will be very obvious if anything like paint work has happened. They aren't gonna send it to some high end place that does impeccable work. Just be through when you look it over. Overspray will have gotten somewhere if they did work to it, and the paint won't perfectly match the rest of the vehicle.

Having grown up in the Brunswickian area, I'd be worried for your car. They store the cars near the marsh and the marsh completely flooded from Irma.

Just waiting on it to dry out. No problem, just a slight inconvenience.

Gaston,

What does "it was released from port" mean? Cleared Customs on the 6th or released from the ship on the 6th to Customs? Customs can take several weeks to release a vehicle.

Looks like it made it through customs, then delivered to Volvo on the 6th.
