If they could magnetically manipulate the serotonergic system, sure. You can do that pretty easily with drugs, though.

Damn, everyday I check the OT nowadays, there's yet another thread about some existential threat or some humanity-upending concept. God dammit.

I'm talking perpetually and without consequences. If the end goal of any human endeavor is happiness, then this could be a cheat code to get there. You wouldn't need family or religion or accomplishments to achieve the same feeling. It could shut down our progression as a species.

What is the point to your posts in this thread? You think it proves or disproves anything? People have faith. Some people don't. Why can't you accept that?

I suspect both sides will claim this as proof one way or the other.

why?

Bums on the street doing PCP probably claim to be God all the time, I doubt Christians use that as proof that God exists.

A drug helmet that makes you hallucinate isn't going to provide any proof for the religious that God exists.

Well, if the god is one that requires a belief in it for eternal life, it didn't do a very good job of creating the human brain.

Implications of the studies findings with respect to society, I guess. Sorry that I offended you.

I do accept that. I haven't said different.

Just because they can make people have a certain type of reaction with their "funny hat" does not prove at all that some people are predisposed to religion. Well to be honest I truly hope that isn't what it means, that would be so sad. Imagine if 20% of people were lost from birth, that would be a tough pill to swallow.

I grew up in a religious home, was in church from an early age. I didn't think it was bullshite, exactly, but it just never affected me. I just looked around at all the people experiencing the sermon or whatever, and felt nothing. So when I got older, I walked away from it and never looked back.

If I wore this helmet, I'd probably be in the 20% that felt nothing. If that means I'm lost from birth, so be it.

Keep the God shite and the spiritual battleground shite in another thread please. We're trying to keep this metaphysical and scientific.

That is certainly one of the implications.

That could be one of the implications but it could also show that some people are more adept at feeling the presence of God than others.

How is that any different than a predisposition toward religiosity?

Not offended. But you are coming off like a condescending jackass in this thread for no reason at all. To me, and most here, seems like you are trying to use this helmet to disprove the existence of God.

Again, why do you care if someone has faith?

Ten percent of the participants knew what was going on. Guess what those ten percent saw...nothing. They also used different levels of magnetism on different participants. I also find it weird that some participants felt they were expected to see something and have out of body experiences. Far too flawed, all this tells me is that the 1% will soon be able to get high without worrying about a DUI.
