I called this the moment I heard of it. It gives kids this illusion that they will be able to communicate their thoughts and reasons from the grave. They don't realize that when the lights go out there is no delayed gratification of knowing you got your message across. And it likely would not get across.

A Google search as the sole basis behind potential "suicidal thoughts" seems pretty vague from a correlation/causation standpoint.
I'm of the belief that if someone is in a place mentally to commit suicide they're going to get that information whether they've watched a show or not.

could also be from a lot of young viewers who saw the show and out of immature (I don't mean this in an insult way) curiosity looked up how many ways people have taken their own lives. think about when you were young...curiosity leads to research and wonderment. just cause they look it up doesn't mean they'll do it.
Not saying that's the only reason the stats increased. I just like to go against the grain with my opinions haha.

Yesterday, it was reported that another Linkin Park fan and a mother of two took her own life following Chester’s suicide.
I remember this happening with Kurt Cobain as well.

I'll watch season 2, but I thought it was overrated.
We need to start policing the arts because of what it might lead people to do. If someone you love and are around all the time kills themselves because they watched a show, they need to be held accountable.

That's not really the point. The point is that the show, whether intentionally or not, somewhat glamorizes suicide or at least creates a very likeable and relatable character who was at one time a nobody and turns her into somewhat of a hero.
I think the fear is that people contemplating suicide,particularly high school kids, do so out of a feeling of lack of self worth. This show illustrates how an otherwise forgetable high school girl became infamous and the most talked about person in this small town because she killed herself and left tapes explaining why. I don't think it's illogical to assume that some teenagers might see this as an opportunity to get the attention or notariety they have longed for, even if that attention or notariety comes after they are dead.

It seemed like the kind of show that would help parents and kids talk to each other about serious issues and possibly prevent some suicides. As someone already mentioned about correlation =/= causation, perhaps those Google searches were made by parents who's eyes were opened to potential problems after the show rather than disillusioned teens ready to end it all. The fact that this is all based on google search data rather than suicide rate data is ridiculous.
Depressed people aren't in their right mind so maybe they can be triggered by music and movies. But the way to save them is not censoring movies and music that raise awareness about the issue.
