One of the most dangerous places on earth. Don't drink the water and stay out of Montreal as it is a No Go Zone.

Montreal is basically France. I'd stay the frick out of that territory.

I just got back from Montreal. Spent four days there for business. Didn't sightsee much but ate real good.

When you ask a question, end it with "eh?"

Example:
"Have you ever been to New York, eh?"

Canada's a cool place, you'll like it. Don't be another a-hole from the U.S. and you'll be fine.

I'd suggest Rosetta Stone. Manitoban is a difficult, harsh language.

I banged a Canadian once. She was pretty good. Good luck on the beaver hunt.

Take your sidearm with you for Polar Bear Protection. Better take two Glocks cause they got Moose up there too.

Never look directly into the northern lights because that can make you goofeyed up.

They occasionally Shanghai innocent USAers into the Canadian Mounties and make you have relations with your horse

K, here's the scoop. I am heading to North Dakota and thought it would be kinda cool to check out Canada. I've never really been to a foreign country though and am worried about little stuff like drinking the water and if I will stand out. Plus other nations kind of hate Americans. Anyone have any experience with Canada? What kind of culture shock can an American expect, mates?

I was in Montana just last week and me and the wife drove into Canada for the day. This was also my first trip out of the country so it was strange.
The border guards asked us many questions like," where do you work?" I thought that was strange.
I'm not used to the metric system so that was odd. Stopped at a gas station and the writing on the pump was in French and it was liters instead of gallons.
Most of the places we stopped took American dollars and the exchange rate was $1.25 American dollars for each Canadian dollar so that was good. However, I found the prices very high in many places. I stopped at a diner and a hamburger was $14.75. Also asked a guy for a Michelob Ultra and he didn't know what that was, then I asked for a coke and he looked at me strangely again?
The people were friendly enough and it was an ok experience.
I hope this helps some?

I'm not going until 2019 so I'll bump this thread to get some final thoughts. Would be nice to get a sticky so I don't have to look for it.

They have this joke the Canadians like to play on Americans. When you order Canadian Bacon they will give ham. Just laugh and tell them you not falling for it and to bring you the real bacon.

Clean modern city to modern New Orleans-esque city that smells like weed at all times

bullshite, Walter.

Vancouver is like an even better version of Seattle.

More beautiful (if that's even possible - the mountains in Vancouver nestle right up against the city limits), more international, better food, hotter (and sluttier) women, better party atmosphere, weed everywhere, etc., etc.

It as just as clean as Seattle except there are probably even more heroin addicts.

bullshite. It is a filthy city.

Homeless are nastier and worse than NOLA

ETA: all the O&G ships in the harbour really add too the ambience of Cleveland.

I'm practically in Canada right now for 2 weeks. Everyone is ok with me being from Texas. They've been making fun of Louisiana people and asking me question about them though.
