His boycott is estimated to have cost him $300,000 dollars.

quote:

In his original protest, the musician told the streaming service, ‘they can have Rogan or Young. Not both’.

Neil Young has announced that his music will return to the music streaming service Spotify, two years after his songs were removed as a form of protest against podcasts that were spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a letter posted on his Neil Young Archives website titled "My Return to Low Res Spotify," the Canadian singer-songwriter explained his choice to put his music back on the platform. "My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I had opposed at Spotify," he wrote.

"I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all, so I have returned to Spotify, in sincere hopes that Spotify sound quality will improve and people will be able to hear and feel all the music as we made it.

So you have conviction, just not quite enough to stand by your passions and own it. Gotcha.

I remember when that happened, but not the specifics. But let me guess, he's one of the idiots who was out there claiming that Rogan took "horse dewormers" when that was a blatant, outright lie?

I always liked the Indian (feather, not dot) guy (Rick Rosas) who played bass for him on the Prairie Fire album.

He played for lots of groups and tours. Was well respected and a really good bass guitar player.

basically just said rogan was spreading misinformation and said if they didn't remove rogan they had to remove his (young's) music. so, they did.

Right, I know that. I'm saying I don't remember the specifics. Like what "misinformation" was NY mad about Rogan spreading?

To my knowledge, Rogan basically took a fairly rational approach to vaccines for Covid. Basically saying that if you're young and relatively healthy you don't really need it, and if you've already had Covid, your natural immunity from the virus is good enough. Was there other information he was spreading that people had a problem with? Because those takes make complete sense to me and have proven to be true for the most part. I just know a ton of people shite all over Rogan back then for saying Ivermectin worked on Covid (which was true) and jumped on the whole "He's taking horse medicine!!!!11" when it was very obvious that he was taking human medicine and it had worked for him. So I didn't know if NY was in that group or if he had a legit gripe.

Whoa. Uncle Neil is a treasure who has influenced a TON of what we hear today. Supremely talented songwriter and guitarist.

The man has been a professional musician for over 50 years.

Must be a sad state of affairs that he needs the money this badly.

Still doesn't change the fact that he's selling out in his old age. If you're going to make outlandish statements about something you don't agree with, either politically or socially, then you turn around just a few years later, it doesn't look good for him.

Don't disagree. I don't think he's anywhere close to being broke, so not sure what his motivation is here. I quit trying to figure out artists' motivations a long time ago...they're often very odd people
