Nice work man, love the brick border. I think I'm more apt to go cheapest I can find and then add the decor as id like. I have a bit of experience with concrete and retaining walls, landscaping etc.

You have a nice setup. I'm studying pool design and prices but my issue is I have a wood deck with no porch. Basically, skinny rectangular shape that runs along the length of the house. I don't have the patio that it can "flow" into, it's wood deck straight out the back door with steps that lead down to the yard.

have you looked into above ground pool options?

We kicked around every which way. But in the end we went with the least expensive upfront option. The liner pool was half the cost of a fiberglass and more than that cheaper than a gunite. We decided to go that route and will eventually put the savings toward an outdoor kitchen.

18' x 36' 40,000 gal salt water pool with all the equipment.. Cost with concrete $24,000.00

Thats more what i was thinking, but im sure there is a huge difference when you get into custom pools, designs, and non-liners.

What are the cons for a liner pool? and what are these prefab kits i see on ebay? looks like you just dig a hole and throw it in the ground.

Honestly curious.

I wouldn't be able to perfect my swan dive in one. The deck isn't that high, like 2-3ft. Thinking something like this

Replacing liners. Which according to my pool guy will cost about 2k installed and will happen every 8-12 years. Other than that I don't know. Gunite will be more durable but when you do repair it you will drop some pretty substantial coin. I think it's the same for fiberglass or you may have to even scrap it all together...

Could you change pool types when you would have to change the liner?

We have a 27ft above ground with a half pool deck. It is a Matrix resin, saltwater. We have had it for about 5 years, easy to maintain only had to replace a pump last year $280. I bought a pool kit from TF test kits and check my water weekly, get a titration kit rather comparing colors it is a lot more accurate. Like others have said trouble free pool is a great resource. In La the biggest thing to keep in check is your CYA levels so you maintain your chlorine. Chlorine disapates and dilutes in the summer with heat and adding water due to evaporation. Stay on top of your levels and don't loose it especially in the summer.

Just had a 20 min swim in my new pool and having a cocktail unwinding by pool after a couple busy days.

Yes a pool is work but in my opinion very much worth it.

I would seriously consider getting a smaller pool. We have a larger one, my aunt a smaller one. Unless you plan on doing laps for exercise, the smaller one is just as much fun to the kids. And I personally would not have a deep end.

Does not compute. My kids live in the deep end, on the diving board.

I bet jeffsmom isn't very happy about this.

I have had enough pool maintenance to last me a couple lifetimes. You all have the best kind of pool for me, someone else's.
