Learn me about pool cost.. (Basically remind me why I don't have one)

I'm lightly thinking about installing a pool at the house I inherited. It's an old farm house I'm going to completely renovate estimated 70 thousand renovation which will leave me with a little money to play with.
Cost for a normal size pool.. liner vs concrete and annual cost to operate?

Would need 50-60k to do a pool you aren't embarrassed about and that's spending wisely on a contractor on costs. Ghetto pool maybe 40k

Don't do it if you don't have much time to keep up with it. I bought a house with a pool because I got a good deal on the house. I wish I didn't have the pool though. I'm not paying someone to keep up with the pool either because I don't like people around my house, especially if I'm not there. If you're cool with that, I'd consider paying someone to keep up with it. My pool is green right now. It was green, I spent time and money getting it cleared up, then the pump motor went out and it got green again. So now I have to replace the motor, take the big filter apart, clean it, work on getting it cleared up again, clean the filters again because all the algae is going to run in there when I start circulating it once the motor is working. Then pretty much wait for the next thing to break on the system.

Fortunately my job allows me to be home everyday and off all summer so upkeep wouldn't be an issue on my part.. Would definitely go saltwater and put it in the open far away from any trees

I have a gunite pool and my brother in law has a fiberglass pool. They put his pool in in about a week. Can't saw there's anything wrong with the fiberglass pool, but it isn't my preference. Kids don't swim as much as they used to, but I still have to keep it up. It's like having an extra kid who doesn't grow up and leave the house.

Saltwater pools are not as popular as 10 years ago.

Check out troubkefreepool.com. Great resource for potential pool builds. I built my pool last year... 15x42 free form, 7 feet deep... With lots of concrete deck and outdoor fireplace. Could've bought a Lamborghini.

That said, I love it. Was absolutelywoth it. We even had an In-floor cleaning system installed... Pool is always spotless and we never have a vacuum swimming around.

I've had spool for 12 years. I've replaced the pump motor twice. It's about $300 to have it done. I use chlorine tablets and never have any issues. It is used several times a week form March through late October, each year.

I have no regrets about building my pool. I will note that I live about 20 miles from Disney World and its hot as hell here most of the year.

Mine is saltwater as well. If you have plenty of time to keep up with it and extra money to have it put in, go ahead and do it. Mine is far from any trees except a palm tree but the leaves still manage to find their way to it

I spent just under $50K for mine last year. Pool contractor has been great to work with.

Approximately 680 sq. ft. (roughly 20,000 gallons), with infinity entrance, bubblers, fountains and heater. All gunite and chose saltwater. $40 lb. bags of salt run about $6 per bag.

Kids love it. Wife loves it. Doesn't matter what I think.

Really like your outside pavilion/kitchen. Was that included in your pool cost? Just curious what that ran as i want to do something similar in my back yard.
