As a matter of fact avoid bourbon street unless you just have to go.

If you must go Pat Os is your bar.

Eat lunch at Santa Fe on esplanade or Lola's right across the street.
In the quarter eat at mr B's

This. No matter how often you go in there, you always seem to come out in a phenomenal mood, especially if your song request isn't cliche' and brings the house down.

Wise move, but the best advice is hereby held back.

Actually the beauty of NOLA is there are at least 60 serviceable restaurants for husbands and wives. And swingers. And dolphins....

I posted on that board soon after posting on this board. The responses on this board are making me laugh my arse off, though. I'm also getting a few good responses.

Quick expansion on the Pat O'Brien's Piano Bar... "Let it Go" from "Frozen" is a panty dropper these days.

it sounds like you have never been to the quarter as an adult...or at least not in a hell of a long time...you catch a lot of crap for it, but honestly, I would just stick to the touristy stuff...it is touristy because it is all pretty damn cool...

do a walking tour of the quarter...if you get the right guide, they can be damn interesting...

take a carrige ride...

visit jackson square after dark to get your palm read or someone to paint a picture of you during the daylight...

eat at the burbon house or gw fins or oceana grill...

check out the antique shops on charters st...there is one that specializes in guns and swords that is beyond cool...

go to the D-day museum...

I do agree that pat O's piano bar is a very cool place to party...I am a little more laid back and like the little bar at the royal sonesta that opens to burbon st...sit in the ac and people watch...

the cat's meow is always good for a kick...they have a webcam inside and out that is actually pretty entertaining to watch when you are at home...check it out now and you will see what I mean...

ETA: be sure you don't make a rookie mistake and drink too much cheap shite the first night...it will ruin the rest of your trip...

You asked for nightlife. There is plenty of that.

Please consider a trip to the WWII museum while you are in the city.

If you go, take the time to speak with some of the remaining veterans who will be in the main room downstairs.

You have to day drink at the Columns on a Saturday afternoon. Also, I can't recommend Bacchanal enough, although it fits a certain niche.

Seriously...might as well add Turtle Bay while you're at it.
