If you think nothing less than a 3.5 will get you a job offer you have no confidence in yourself and you are taking advice from the wrong people.
Hate to break it to you, but some people absolutely suck at finding jobs and then they go blame the job market and blame "the man" and then they go and spread their bullshite information to others.
I didn't have the best GPA in college and I had no trouble finding an internship and a career because I listened to people at career services who know what the hell they're talking about and I utilized careers 2 geaux and other great services we had at LSU.
You're better off barely passing with a 2.0 in PETE than getting a 4.0 in some useless film degree. You need to also find out why you are doing bad? Are you unable to comprehend the material or are you just a lazy person?

PA to AD is a hard route. I doubt I will get hired because Im terrible at networking . Its a long, tiring process. When I was an extra I saw PAs who were 50....

If you're more of the shrinking-violet type, then you are probably less likely to succeed in climbing the below-the-line crew ranks.
Consider getting a BSN in nursing and pursuing film as a hobby until it pays off. If you still have a shitload of hours left and can't find anything you're interested in at a university, consider enrolling in a 2-year PTA, OTA, or RN program at a local community college. You'll probably already have completed some of the pre-reqs. Again, you can leave with a marketable degree that will pay your bills while you pursue your film interests without financial stress.

Good luck. Update the thread when you make your decision. I wish someone had given me me the same advice I'm giving you when I was in your shoes. Instead, I went the education route.

Would you recommend to just get a worthwhile degree and not do film?
Networking and skill is the key to success in the film industry, not degrees or GPAs. I am also of the opinion that someone has to truly have a passion for their craft if they want to work in film. If you don't love what you're doing, you'll never be an AD, key anything, etc.

Does Economics, International Studies, political science ,Environmental Policy, or agribusiness seem good to any of you guys? Im going to get a film minor.

All will get you a degree. But you better plan on getting a state government job or going to grad school shortly after. Jobs are going to be few and far between and pay is likely to be crap.

Just graduate and join the military. You can get a trade that way while being paid. If you want to go back to school after you get out, there is always the GI Bill

Just finish your bullshite degree and join the military as an officer.
Doesn't work like that. If he wanted active duty officer he would have to graduate with at least a 3.0gpa and through a commissioning program which the only option for him would be OCS, and let's face it, they aren't taking soldiers like they use to. In other words, he should just enlist.

What would it take for to get a degree in General Studies? It might get you out quickly.
If you minor in biology it's basically the same thing as getting a major anyway.

Get it together kid........... I'm joking. I majored in English. It was frickin dumb. Just finish the degree in petroleum engineering dude. Man up and don't be scared about jobs. Pray, work hard, and stay humble. Good things will come.

Companies don't really care THAT much about your gpa for a job for petroleum eng . They only care about your gpa for internships
Posted on 8/27/14 at 8:18 am to Need4Speed
You're better off getting a degree in finance instead of Econ
Posted on 8/27/14 at 8:23 am to Need4Speed
go back to engineering if you want a good job and stable career...civil and environmental are easier than petroleum
Posted on 8/27/14 at 8:27 am to Macintosh504
gpa is probably too low for finance

Geology would be good. You could finish in 2 years since you should already have most of the pre reqs via your pete classes.
Another option would be construction management. Without summer classes, it would take 5 semesters, with summers and intersessions, you should have enough pre-recs to finish in a year and a half. It's a good degree with a lot of job prospects, angreat student association, and unriveled alumni support.
Both of these programs are also offered as masters programs so if you want to finish your undergrad, you can always go back.
