Has anyone mentioned John LeCarre's "George Smiley" series of spy novels? "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold," "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and so forth. I suppose many of you have at least seen the BBC productions of these novels.

What about Pat Barker's Regeneration Trilogy? Considered by many critics to be among the greatest historical war novels ever written. I'm currently rereading these books and enjoying them as much as I did when I first read them years ago.

Brad Thor's Scot Harvath series is right up your alley if you like Vince Flynn (Mitch Rapp). I've read both and they are equally entertaining and bad-azz!

Your welcome!

Pendergast books by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child
Bob Lee Swagger by Stephan Hunter
Jack Reacher by Lee Child

Your taste in books is damn near identical to mine, and while Mitch Rapp used to be my favorite book series, it's now the Pendergast novels by Preston & Child. Read through them all multiple times. I will say it's probably the least like Rapp/Sigma of the ones I suggested (it's more crime than covert ops, but they are definitely not traditional crime thrillers - Pendergast is FBI, but also ex-special ops and does basically whatever he wants like Rapp). Read the Pendergast books in order. He starts out as an almost side character in Relic, but him and his past quickly becomes the focus of the series.

Swagger is another fantastic character, though I haven't read all the most recent books. Same with Reacher.

W.E.B. Giffin has a few series.

I am finishing up the "Presidential Agent Series" aka Charley Castillo. I have enjoyed it.

Very good series.

My opinion, Reacher is better than Mitch Rapp and Scot Harvath. But Bob Lee Swagger is my favorite.
