The Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O' Brien. 22 or 23 in all; should keep you occupied the next 2-3 years.

More like 6 months. Those books were like crack to me.

And I believe there are 20 completed books and then he passed away in the middle of #21.

This is the basis of "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World".

I don't know what it was, but during the fourth book I completely lost interest in the story.

Wow - I guess I really have enjoyed them. I have often thought the writers of VIKINGS must have read the books.

Here are some along those lines: Jack Reacher (Lee Child) Scott Harvath (brad Thor) Pike Logan (Brad Taylor) Dewey Andres (Coes) Gill Shannon (McEwen) John Well (Berenson) Gray Man (greaney) Ben Hope (Mariani) Gabriel Allon (silva)

Read all of the Mitch Rapp and it was decent. The list above is good with Reacher being the best.

But a similar series and my personal favorite, the Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter. Mark Walberg's character in the Shooter is based off these books. The first book of the series is Point of Impact it's the story the movie was loosely based on.

Nelson Demile has a few sieries that are right up your alley. He gets a lot of inspiration from modern news headlines. The John Corey & Kate Mayfield books are based modern day terrorism based story lines.

My two favorite books of his are cold war era "Charm School" and "Up Country". Excellent stuff!

Four four-hundred page books a month? You're either a man of leisure … or fondness for Adderall.

Hey, j/k, don't get riled.

I believe it took me two and a half years to plow through the series back in the early 90's when I lived in Little Rock. What a fascinating world O'Brien created … or should I say, recreated. I plan to reread the series in the idle hours of my declining years.
