Everybody wants a motorbike to a certain degree, and anybody who disagrees with me is a lying sack of shite. It might not be something you think about or even consider as a possibility, but deep down inside you know you want one......well I'm ready to pull the trigger. Buddy of mine's got a 2001 Yamaha V Star 650 Classic with 14,000 miles on it and two new tires and said he'd sell it to me for 1500. I am a complete beginner, so I need some opinions and expertise from those who know these things. Is it a good buy/good bike for a starter bike? Thanks yall

I hear ya. I had a friend die on one too and it sucks so bad. I know all the risks and have accepted them. I just can't deal with the thought of something takin me out the game before I can ride a little. I feel that way about most I the risks I take. Seems like living is a death wish

That's a fair price for that bike and it will be a good one for you to learn on. Ride safe.

If he has maintained the bike and it has no immediate needs, that is a good price and a great bike to learn on.

Take it from me and buy a small displacement bike to learn. Do not listen to people who tell you that you will "outgrow" the bike in 6 months. There is nothing more dangerous than a rookie on a liter bike.

I rode dirt bikes for years then I rode a 250cc street bike for a year and now I am riding a DRZ 400s. I am no where near the level of skill that I need to be.in order to handle a bigger bike. I think your bike may be a little overpowered to start but you can just choose to take it very easy.

Have fun and stay on 2 lane roads. Watch for people turning left in front of you and you will be fine. It's the most fun you can have with clothes on.

650 is a lot of bike for a begginer. You need to take a training course, it's around 100 dollars but worth it. Start out slow and always wear your helmet. Nobody will think your cool/good looking/ sexy/ dare devil/ whatever you come up with in your mind when riding a bike.

before you go and make love to a telephone pole

go to your local community college and take a motorcycle safety course

it will save your life

mine was free, a 25 dollar donation to hold the spot and the option to donate to the cause, so I did.

it was worth a lot more

and the 650 is the minumum you should get...so yeah, you're ok there. can't beat the price.....but take that course

you'll thank me after

Listen to what others have told you you here. Go find a rider's learning course and take it. That needs to be step one. After that, stick to secondary roads and less traveled road until you're comfortable with it. And always be aware of your surroundings. Assume any car you see doesn't see you. Just stay safe, keep the shiney side up, and enjoy the road.
