Is this the thread where we brag about making more than the average person in our profession? If so, hey

Those days when I think "would it be easier if I just did this job for someone else?" Seeing that and knowing it's higher than local average made me feel a lot better. three times better,

Yep. Even though the numbers in my profession are absolutely bullshite. Civil inspectors\technicians don't average 60k a year before overtime. Even with overtime, most are lucky to make that much. Hell, a civil engineer usually makes 50-60k, most way under 80k.

Where do these inflated numbers come from?

That list makes me realize how much my current employer sucks in the compensation department.

This is why I laugh when people say college teachers are underpaid.

You have to also consider cost of living, you're comparing your salary to the average. Do you live in an area with an average cost of living, or a below average cost of living?

ETA: you can dig deeper into the number and look at compensation for your particular metro area. If you're way below average there, then yea you may be getting fricked

Most start out 50-60

This is an average across all levels of experience.

No one is going to go for an engineering degree to make 60k for a career salary

No. Not one with any competence.

Any licensed engineer would scoff at $60K (or they should).
