a) you should support and love your child regardless if their desires are the same as your own. its his life, not yours.

b) dude is 15. lots of things change between the time you are 15 and an adult. frick, I wanted to be a cop when I was 15.

c) he might be doing this to piss you off. I would specifically do things to piss my father off when I was 15.

Our son was not sports minded but he didn't trend toward dancing, either. He was more of a Momma's boy who liked graphic design and the sorts....Had to find his own path.

Spent 5 years in the USAF, two years on a rig and is now overseas as a civilian in support of the military. Is using the GI bill for his education and writing and installing programs for deployment of munitions. Is now a HUGE fan of sports...knows more about LSU and the Saints than I do

I would take you are from Shreveport in your profile. That's embarrassing.

He is 15 and for some reason he wants to join dance school. Apparently smothering him with sports his entire life did nothing but turn him off to it. He has no aspirations to go to college; All he wants to do is dance and be on that dancing with the stars show.

Anyone else's son try to follow this path? What did you do to right the ship?

I have a cousin who was a professional dancer. He was very good, and was in an in a top flight touring company and was booked all the time.

There are several extreme cons to dancing as a career. Your window to dance is very small, so you have to also be able to choreograph or teach.Very few people have these additional abilities, and few of the ones that do ever make any money. It is extremely competitive.

If your son is straight there will be a stigma within the dance community that he is only there to crush puss. My cousin battled it his whole career. And even though you are eye deep in poon you can't crush because you have no money to impress the females because you are a dancer, and there a million of you chasing a few hundred parts.

TLDR It is very hard to make a living, even if you are one of the best in the world.

Support him as his father even if you have reservations around if you would have done that at his age.

The last thing he needs is dad turning his back.

This I can live with.

This I couldn't. I wouldn't care if my son wanted to dance. But he's damn sure going to college. Minor in dance. Hell, double major in dance and something else. But that 'something else' better be something that enables him to get a job.

I can live with my son being gay. I can't live with him hitting me up for money for the next 60 years.

Never seen an episode, but I was under the impression that the show was about "celebrities" dancing, and not professional dancers.

I hope if my son is the same he has the decency to move far away and only come home for holidays and his "friend" stays behind.

Maybe you smothered him in sports b/c deep down inside you always knew he would rather wear a leotard and prance around on stage. You tried to suppress it as much as you could but it has now come full circle and he is going to express himself it seems...... sorry bud

My first cousin started in dancing when he was young. He also started jump roping. He became good at it and actually was on America's Got Talent with the Flight Crew Jump Rope Team. He also makes a good living doing gigs for cirque du soleil dancing and jump roping. So all is not lost.

Oh yeah, he is gay.....the only gay person in our family. So there's that.

Seriously, if that is what he is into then support him otherwise you will hurt the relationship between the two of you.

There are a lot of guy dancers and it requires the same discipline and physical demands as sports. Some might even argue it's a sport itself so stop being upset because your son isn't what you wanted him to be and support him.

This. If he's gay, just be supportive of him. If he's straight, he's going to be slaying the poon at the clubs (guys that can dance make panties go all wet) so try not to be too jealous
