Does your son enjoy living in NOLA and want to live there forever?
This could be part of the reason that he doesn't want to move on.
When I was about to graduate I was looking for anything that wouldn't be around the area I grew up. In my mind dying sounded better then having to work back around there.

Until he enrolls on grad school, cut him off. He must pay you rent, car insurance, call phone bill...this will make him get a job. If he refuses, kick him out.
Once he is in grad school, offer to pay those things again, but not his 20k tuition. Tell him you have done all that you can for him, time for student loans.
Successful jobs in finance require hard work and motivation, very few are geniuses. To truly succeed in the industry, he has to get out and hustle.

What does he want to do with his degree? Serious question.

International Trade and Finance. I'm sure he would like to work on "wall st.", but I want him to take a job with a local bank. He's not interested.

Set him up with a bank teller job at Whitney so he can see my OT baller checks and be jealous

Never put your own money at risk when you can put some other person's money at risk.
Looks to me like he's got this figured out. And at such a young age, too. Precocious.

*Can't get a job.
Well, dad, this is awkward but I'll dodge and weave.
Graduated in international trade & finance concentrated in empirical economic analysis this summer.. And yes I'm trying to start gradschool next fall.
because of that taking any job outside of baton rouge means moving three times and three years (which isn't happening). so my potential job market is pretty limited, esp considering baton rouge is built for internships and i got a degree better suited for new york or texas. in the meantime..
no, i don't live at home. (can't get kicked out)
yes, i pay all of my own bills. (can't get cut off)
yes, i have been saving money. (i paid pretty much all of my undergrad tuition and will be paying for all of my grad tuition)
yes, i'm on payroll as a server until i can find a job here. (i know, that 2.25/hr is killer)
yes, if anyone knows anyone hiring here in baton rouge, i'm all ears.

So you created an account and sat on it for almost two years just to have it ready to pull out in case your pops decided to talk shite about you?
I find it tough to believe somebody with that level of planning, patience and foresight can't find an adequate starter job for himself.
Assuming that this is legit and Dixie isn't Tyler Durden-ing himself. But I choose to believe.

that's what you need to be doing. bach + masters with a year off in the same city, and you spent that time being a server? no good

I would bet that your son is still smoking pot like he did while in college. He knows he can't pass a drug test right now so why bother applying only to fail a piss test if called in & hired.

Meh. He could quit the day he gets a call for an interview, take a detox and pass with flying colors. I did this with two post college jobs. If he has to take a hair test then he's screwed.

It's common for kids to stay at home here in Japan until they get married. My two oldest sons, 23, 22, pay 600 dollars each a month in rent and the daughter is still in school, so she's still rent free.
So give him a choice. Pay or get out.
