The bad thing is, that sounds like my mother. Everything is hers. She doesn't even have a job. She gets disability for some stupid shite. Dad is the bread winner in the house. He just doesn't wanna argue with her crazy arse.

Aside from the insurance, he said the truck is completely paid for and he's just paying his parents a monthly "note". I'm assuming they paid cash for it, so they saved on finance fees/interest. Plus OP's credit (or lack of credit history) probably wouldn't have helped him get a decent interest rate, so I can see how his parents paying for it and him paying them back would've saved $. But that still doesn't explain having to put it in their names, except for them to have more control over him.

ETA: Insurance could be less if they don't have full coverage on the truck. Since it wasn't financed, full coverage wouldn't be required, right?

The note is much less than $1000, I'm trying to pay it off as quickly as possible

I couldn't go golfing today because she said I didn't ask her first.

How old are you? Sit down and talk it out with your mom, get some ground rules.... In the end this is your mother not the damn Isis... Your mom's not crazy just overprotective and she wants the best for you... Stop acting like a 16 year old, you're growing up now so honor and respect your parents even if they come off a little crazy.

Nah, but you might be able to hire Darth's gang to take out your mom.

On a date, then you steal your truck back.

I have a son in grad school ... when he comes home he will often ask if we have plans or what's going on and then make his plans. I certainly don't tell him where he can/can't go BUT I do still ask him to be respectful and let me know if he's coming home that night or staying at a friends.

He came home for a summer to do an internship, much like the OP. Guess he was about 21? He came and went but did let us know his general plans ... I'd never have told him he couldn't do something unless it was a super important family something but other than that, wouldn't have thought of it.

That's basically how it is here. My 19 year old daughter (no pics) still asks "Is it ok if I hang out with so and so? Can I spend the night at so and so's?"

To me that's different than towing their vehicle because they didn't ask permission to play golf.

Think about this. Do you really want to sue your parents? That basically means cutting all ties with them.

First mature step would be to have a sit-down with them, point out all the good things you've done (scholarship, good grades, internship) and find out what their expectations are for you ("stay in our house, abide by our rules" or whatever). Tell them you thought since you were paying for the truck, it would be yours. If you can't agree, then give up the truck, finance something on your own, and find someplace else to stay every holiday/school vacation.

You're dumb. Good luck when they call the 5-0 on you when you take it without asking

As crazy as she sounds, she's GOT to be hot.

Hot or not. The crazier they are the better they are in bed.

The OP's mom sounds like a firecracker.

She can't accept the reality that you are a grown man. Can you not take your truck; is it locked up somehow?

A few questions....

1. Who wiped your arse when you couldn't wipe it yourself?
2. Who fed you when you couldn't feed yourself?
3. Who took care of you when you were sick?
4. Who put clothes on your back?
5. Who gave you a roof over your head?
6. Who carried you around in their womb for nine months while you wrought havoc on her body?
7. Who comforted you when you were scared as a kid?
8. Who had little on Christmas morning while you had a pile of presents?
9. Who was the only person totally impressed at every shitty drawing you brought home from 1st grade?
10. Who always made sure every birthday you had as a kid was awesome?

Yeah, how about instead of being an ungrateful, disrespectful insolent little shite, you instead go home thank the woman who literally gave you life. And then tonight get down on your knees and thank the lord that you've not lived to see the day when you're standing over a casket looking down at her and every stupid thing you've ever done to hurt or disrespect her comes flooding back. And at that moment, you'll remember what it's like to be a scared little boy, crying, wanting your momma. And you'll want nothing more than one more chance to apologize to her for every little thing you've ever done. But then it's too late.
