Hmm. Not quite so sure that this is always the case. I'm sure some interracial couples, for instance, may experience social hate for their relationship.

Do you have a problem with interracial couples as well, or just the gays? Is it also "stupid PC speak" to say that interracial couples are the same as intraracial couples?

Easy solution. I tell them it's a choice and a sin. We are not to judge them because we all have our own sins we're guilty of. (insert example here) However, it is an immoral lifestyle.

You say you are not to judge then you say it's an immoral lifestyle. Sounds a little contradictory, don't you think?

Bingo. Have boys 8 and 12. The 12 year old gets it and knows its wrong although he is to love them as a child of God. The 8 year old is at that stage he doesn't want to see or hear stuff like that, hetero or homo.

That's not discrimination.

It's not contradictory to hold the position that the government should not discriminate against homosexuals while not personally condoning the lifestyle.

I think this is a good way to handle it. I'll go back and address it this way with him this evening. I just didn't know what to say when the day this happened.

For those bashing me, forgive me for wanting to think over the issue before presenting a suitable response to my kid. I was trying to think of the best way to answer his question.

Not at all.

I say it is a sin, just like divorce that's not due to sexual immorality, sex before marriage, adultery, gluttony, etc. etc.

When I say not to judge, I mean not to hate, discriminate, or avoid them. The immoral part is added to let them know it is still sinful behavior and that we all struggle with sin. That doesn't mean I believe they're going to hell, as their sin is no worse than my own. It also doesn't mean I'm against gay marriage. My personal opinion is that the government should be out of marriage completely, but if the government is going to be in charge of marrying, I cannot logically think of a legal argument against gay marriage- or polygamy for that matter.

Do you also teaching them the incorrect use of the word "hate?"

look, I've been around enough religious parents/people to know that they absolutely hate and/or judge the crap out of gays

they might say that they do not judge them because that is God's job or whatever, but that is just them doing good Christian talk

I found out for the first time my 8 year old was under the impression that the term "gay" was a bad word.. I quickly corrected him and said they love each other and gay is the term used when two men or women love each other like mom and dad.

Teaching a kid right from wrong is not teaching a kid to "hate someone for being different". Two dudes fricking each other up the arse is wrong. I feel sorry for you if you think it's right. But either way, knowing that it is wrong is not "hating them because they are different".

I hope not. I love my wife a lot, actually, and don't hate our relationship. Not sure how pointing out that some interracial couples may face social hate lead you to believe that I may hate them. Reading comprehension problems, perhaps?

I don't hate gays at all.

In some ways, I can imagine it would be.

So you're into sweeping generalizations as well as improper use of English terms?

The idea that disagreeing with someone's actions equates to hate is beyond preposterous. It cheapens the discussion by loading it with logical fallacies.
