My home a/c unit won't stop running.

I have the thermostat on72 and I woke up this morning and then internal temp was 66. No matter what I change the temp to, it just keep pumping cold air. Even if I turn it all the way off its still keeps running.
Any ideas?

Probably need a new thermostat.

Relay switch might be stuck. Go tap on it

Shoot it in the kneecap.
That'll teach it.

Won't turn off but still blowing cold? Turn the system off. If still running flip the breaker. Could be a thermostat issue. Last time mine kept running was because the coils froze up because of a leak in freon. But it wouldn't be blowing cold, more than likely. Go outside and look at your pipe into the house and your inside unit for any freezing pipes.

Auto. It I move it to Run it doesn't change anything.
I looked at the unit outside and no frozen pipes. The unit isn't even running outside but inside it is steady pumping cold air.

Take off the thermostat till you can see the exposed wires.
the Red wire is 28v
the Green wire is Indoor fan
the Yellow wire is Compressor
the White wire is Heat
the Orange wire is the SOV (switch over valve) for heat pumps
the Black wire is Emergency or Secondary Heat " " "
Jumper what you want to happen to the Red wire. e.g.
Red to Green and Yellow for normal air-conditioner to run.
I am no AC tech.. I got this off the internet and used the same process to check mine when my AC was running wierd.

Compressor control circuit is a likely scenario (Could be a stuck relay or contactor). Flipping the breaker off may be your only option unless you know your way around the control circuit. If you turn the breaker off, give it several minutes before you flip it back on. This may actually temporarily solve your issue but, even if it does, it will likely reoccur quickly.
If you are not experienced dealing with 240V circuits, call an AC person. If you are near Lafayette, I would suggest Manning AC.

It's most likely a bad contactor, and this needs to be replaced immediately. Your bill is going to go through the roof and eventually it will ruin the compressor and fan motor as well.

I missed that but it is possible. What likely has happened is his evaporator coils have frozen, possibly due to a leak. The fan on the air handler portion often works based on the temp of the air exiting the air handler. If the coils are frozen, the fan will continue to blow until the coils thaw and the temperature exiting the air handler drops.
ETA: Actually, though, depending on when he checked the outside unit vs when the fan was running it may still be a stuck contactor/ control circuit problem. If he turned the outside unit off, the inside unit could still be running depending on the type of system (if the heating system is a furnace, for instance). Then the fan would blow for a few minutes, likely.

curious as to how the compressor and condenser are not running, but you still have cold air inside?

We had the exact same thing last month. I'll have to wake up the Elect. Eng. and see how he fixed it.
He replaced the controller, about a hundred bucks for the part.

You might want to contact River City Air to get that A/C fixed. Don't forget to use the Moscona special.
