There is no such thing as a "non flood zone".

It may be a low-risk area.

Not understanding that fact - both by homeowners and insurance agents and the entire mortgage industry - has caused a lot of people to be screwed.

Nope. No columns.

I remember you saying your mom's house was built in the early 70's. The one with the white columns on the corner of Goodwood and Sherwood fits the time frame.

Good luck with FEMA.

They'd be better off going to a FEMA rep location and get face to face.

Hope it works out for them

My parents are getting dicked around by FEMA as well so I totally feel your frustration.

FEMA denied them at first saying they had flood insurance....they did not and we sent them the letter from their mobile home insurance saying their claim was denied due to no flood coverage. Called and visited FEMA office while I was visiting BR to make sure they had letter in system. Was told they did and case was being reviewed again. Get back to AZ......my parents were denied a SECOND time for the same reason ....FEMA claiming they had flood insurance, even though they now have documentation otherwise to prove this.

Yes I know....appeal, appeal, appeal. But the stress from FEMA alone is a lot on some people. My dad is 68 years old, disabled, and on a very fixed income. He hears about others getting their money right away from FEMA,....and freaks out thinking they won't get anything at all now. He's already very emotionally distraught from all of this. I keep telling him over and over that we will fight this and we just have to be patient....but it doesn't stop my dad from stressing every single day over this.

What gets me, is that people will degrade and talk about how inept fema is, and how they are not capable of doing anything correctly, but will then turn around and take what they say about flood zones as the gospel truth and not purchase flood insurance ( on their biggest assets)because the very organization that they say is inept declares them in a low risk flood zone.

I feel your pain, Nurse. Have to appeal for my dad. My older sister and I both have power of attorney so I'm hoping they don't give me too much crap. I might have to cut a bitch if they do

I will say that the people that work at the FEMA centers (at least the one I went to in DS) were incredibly nice and patient with my dad. One lady we spoke with could see how stressed out he was. When I explained that I have been the one receiving all the FEMA stuff by phone or online because my dad is horrible with the Internet....she kindly suggested us write something there that my dad could sign giving me permission to be able to get information from the case over the phone.

Place had plenty of chairs for my dad to sit in while we wait. Free water and snacks for people as well while they waited. I thanked the workers there profusely because of how kind they were to my dad.

Granted....FEMA still won't tell me anything because they said they see a note on my dad's case about that document....but don't have it attached to his file yet.

I don't need power of attorney yet over my dad. Before all this he was fully able to handle everything my mom and siblings needed. This has just shaken him so much, I've never seen him like this in my entire life. Every single little thing just stresses him out. He's so stressed he will forget things I just told him.

Eta: They had my dad apply for SBA loan....declined. Not surprising though considering he only lives off social security and the low wage jobs my mom and siblings have. I haven't even told him yet about that cause I'm so worried that it will only freak him out more.

The Carneys built that home. Built it in 80's.

Screw you.

They made sure they had a copy of the deed, marriage license, and property tax stuff when he visited. I made sure of that after I read the horror stories on this site. However, FEMA dude checked off they couldn't show proof they owned the home despite that.

They went to FEMA center. FEMA person said they had had a problem with some inspectors doing that. Said they are getting paid per house so some are flying through the inspections, checking off whatever box, and then the victims have to appeal.

They are appealing. FEMA center was very helpful. It's just one more thing they have to deal with when they have been kicked down pretty hard.
