My mom's house was flooded. Five feet of water. Some of you guys helped gut it. They made their FEMA appointment. I made sure they followed the OT's advice and they had their deed, marriage license, and all that stuff there at the house with them when FEMA dude showed up. They also took pictures as well.

FEMA dude had a blase attitude. They tried to show him documents but he barely looked at them. Glanced at a couple of photos and that was it. Filled out his report and left.

They got denied because............. they could not show proof of ownership of home even though they had it and presented it. They went down today to appeal. My mom and stepfather are in their 70's. This is pretty nerve wracking, to say the least.

Bastards.

It's the government. I don't know why anyone is surprised. This is as amazing as the fact that they completely screwed up our healthcare system. Who thought that would go well?

Its funny how the government can find money for some things, but other.. more serious things.. they can't.

That's bullshite.

You guys should probably use your phones and film the FEMA visits/inspections/interviews whatever it is they call them.

Create as much proof as you can as a safety net.

Just keep appealing. Exhaust every avenue you can. I posted in another thread my mother in law was denied the first time because they said she had flood insurance. She submitted the paper work proving she did not and they gave her $4k. Not a lot but a start. Now she is appealing by attaching all invoices and estimates she received. Also if she gets denied for an sba loan you can go back and attach the denial letter and FEMA
Should give even more money. Just don't give up. Keep appealing. Every little bit helps.

The paperwork showed to them had it checked off that they couldn't show proof of ownership.

Should be pretty easy to remedy...just more bureaucracy to deal with, though.

I imagine those folks have grown kind of cynical at this point due to all of the bullshite they have heard recently...no reason to mistreat honest folks, though.

I'm not very familiar with FEMA, but could your parents sue them if their claim falls on deaf ears?

There were rumors going around (probably FB) telling people to take pictures of the person because there were people posing as FEMA & casing houses.

A coworkers mom tried to take a pic of her inspector & said the lady flipped out, yelling that no one was going to take her pic...

But when people showed up with 20 kids to sign up for emergency monies after the hurricanes nobody asked for proof of birth.

This sucks and I hate to hear how our government treats people who truly need help at a time of need. This is only going to get uglier and uglier with FEMA down here.
